VA: Message from Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) Regarding The Senate Immigration Reform Bill
2007-05-30 | Rep. Frank Wolf

Received via U.S. Mail from Rep. Wolf's office in Washington:

To: 10th District Residents

From: Rep. Frank Wolf

Date: May 30, 2007

Re: Senate Immigration Reform Bill

I thought it was important to make you aware that I do not support the immigration reform legislation recently introduced in the Senate. It is seriously flawed and includes provisions that would amount to a virtual amnesty for people who are in our country illegally, which some estimate to be 12 million people or more.

I do not support amnesty. Amnesty is an insult to all the law-abiding immigrants who have been waiting in line patiently and legally for their immigration number to come up. Such an amnesty would only intensify an already significant immigration problem and overwhelm our already overburdened social services and law enforcement systems.

When the House considered major immigration reform legislation in 1986, I voted to strike a provision in the bill to grant amnesty to those who had entered the country illegally. When that amendment failed, I voted against the House bill that included a legalization provision which subsequently became law. Judging from the immigration situation now in our country, I do not believe any fair minded person would call that legalization program a success.

It is critical that we get control of our borders as the first priority for any immigration reform effort. We also must do a better job enforcing the laws that are already on the books.

I hope this information is helpful.

For VA 10th District (Northern Virginia) Freepers. Compare to other VA reps (e.g., Tom Davis, Jim Moran...one's a RINO, the other is a clown).

‘one’s a RINO, the other is a clown’

Sounds like a circus, anyway, glad the clown or RINO is taking a stand.

Tom Davis is a RINO, Jim Moran is the clown. Neither is taking a stand.

Frank Wolf (my rep) is, however.

...Amnesty is an insult to all the law-abiding immigrants

Frank Wolf has been my representitve since before I was even born. The guy is a good man, a man of honor and integrity. And he knows his roots. I have casts more votes for this man in my life then I have for any other man or woman for any other office. This makes me proud that I have.

All VA Freepers should call every Congressperson in the Virginia delegation, regardless of whether you're in their district. I did, and explained that fact right up front, but that I wanted to understand their position and express my opposition to the bill.

Most are against (including Davis), some REALLY against. Strangely, Moran's staffer (I was redistricted to him years ago) seemed interested in the "against" position and engaged in a brief but very civil debate.

Call your Senators as well, and don't forget to leave a message at the RNC if they're still bunkered in and using an answering machine on the comments line.
