Jon Bruning, a Republican who serves as Nebraskas attorney general, is waiting no longer for incumbent Senate Republican Chuck Hagel to make up his mind about 2008. Bruning announced Thursday that he is seeking the GOP nomination for the seat presently held by Hagel, a prominent Republican opponent of President Bushs Iraq war policies.
Hagel, nationally known as a Republican dissident, has created an air of mystery about what path he will take next year. Though he may well decide to pursue a third Senate term, he has left open the possibility of running for president perhaps as an independent candidate or retiring from politics altogether.

Excellent news. It’s time for Hagel to leave.
Where do I send my check?
Bingo. I’ll send him a check, too. Anything to get rid of sleazy Bagel.
I am going to donate right now. Purge the Hagel.
Jon Bruning was elected Nebraskas 31st Attorney General in 2002 with 66 percent of the vote, the largest margin of victory among Attorneys General in the country that year. Hes the youngest Attorney General in the United States and the youngest in Nebraska history. He previously served six years as a state senator in the Nebraska Legislature.
Already posted in a different thread yesterday but bears repeating for those who did not see it.
What’s nice about this announcement is that the last time someone dared to challenge a sitting Republican we had the liberal loyalists doing their best to sabotage their chances even on this board. The result is that folks like deWine and Chafee were the nominees, but still lost.
I’m sure they’ll still attack, and I’m certain the RNC will still do its best to destroy him for daring this challenge to hagel, but it’s nice to know the resistence to the challenge is guarenteed to be less on this board then before.
If conservatives need to form a coalition with anyone for a majority, then let it be conservative Indy’s and dems. Backstabbers like hagel only weaken us internally and result in the mess we have now. My fondest wish Hagel, Linds and all of their ilk face successful challenges.
Jon Bruning was a liberal Clinton supporter during the 1990’s.
Can you tell us why? details, details, details.
My first contribution has been made. More as we go along.
Ditto.
Jon Bruning was a liberal Clinton supporter during the 1990s.
So whats the difference between him and Trent Lott?
Last time I saw any polls, Hagel was down in the 30’s in his own state. Dead politican walking.
Clintonfatigued:””Jon Bruning was a liberal Clinton supporter during the 1990s.””
tennmountainman:”So whats the difference between him and Trent Lott?”
Now that there is funny... I don’t care who you are!
I saw Trent on Brits show tonight. There he was whining about how the Senate could not get anything in today’s world. He asked if maybe they shouldn’t just close up shop and wait until the next election.
I was screaming YES! I hate to admit that this man is my Senator.
LLS
He was on with Mark Levin on the radio yesterday and seemed to pass the Levin test. He gave out his website address and it seems he is launching a national campaign to get rid of Hagel. Bruning has to be better than Hagel, right? ABH — Anybody But Hagel, I guess.
Well, from the article I would say that he would be worse in several ways than Hagel. His positions a mere 15 years ago place him among far left democrats. What’s up with him...is Republican only a party of choice in Nebraska?
hagel, hageling The act of announcing an announcement to announce there is no announcement to announce. “He is announcing his bid for the presdency but announces that he’ll wait to announce the decision at another time” that is to say “Jon Bruning is tired of being hageled”
Mike Johanns fought the same claims of being a ‘liberal’ by certain individuals in the Republican party when he ran for governor.
He was the most conservative governor ever up to his time, as it turned out.
Hagel was claimed to be the most conservative senator by the same people just before Hagel went ga-ga with the media attention.
So, Jon wizened up when he got older. So did Johanns. So have a lot of people, while some like Hagel have gotten stupider.
There is one other potential candidate coming to the race...Hal Daub, former mayor of Omaha and congressman. Now, Hal has one thing going for him - he’s an unabashed conservative. But, he has one thing going against him - he’s an unabashed loudmouth to many people.
Right now, unless Daub’s image can improve in western Nebraska and not bring out the anti-Daub voters in Omaha in droves like he will currently, Bruning is the best hope to remove Hagel from office.
