To: lag along

No as in “no” against cloture? Or no against the bill? As I understood it, “no” against cloture is good because it means they can keep debating it ad infinitum and adding ridiculous amendments to it that will kill it.

No against cloture. Yes they can keep debating it, but I believe Reid says if this cloture vote fails, the bill is FINI.

Garrett said they might bring it up later in the year but he doubted it.

It's a "no" on cloture, meaning a "no" to end debate. This is very good because Ried said he would table the bill if he did not get a cloture vote today. There's some chance he might reneg and keep debate going, thereby opening the door for some way to salvage the bill in the coming days, but I doubt it. If he doesn't get a colture vote, he'll move the Senate on to some other item on the agenda. That's what he said he'd do, and he'd look like a fool if he didn't.

Of course, this won't prevent the treason lobby from bringing the bill up for consideration again later. So until the next election, we have to be on guard.
