Soft Indian Government Appeases China

Moving away from any public posturing on controversial issues, including the recent hardening of Beijing’s stand on Arunachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today struck a conciliatory tone with Chinese President Hu Jintao calling China “our greatest neighbour” and that New Delhi would “do everything” to cement this relationship.

“Our Government, and I speak for all people regardless of their political affiliations, want the strongest relationship with China. China is our greatest neighbour and it will be and it has been a constant endeavour of my government to do everything in our power to cement our relationship,” he said in a brief session open to the media.

Singh’s remarks come when China is consistently reiterating its claim over Arunachal Pradesh through various ways — the latest being its Foreign Minister’s message, as reported in The Indian Express today, that presence of population won’t affect Beijing’s claim.

Of course.. as much as I admire how China has developed, their sense of racial pride and supremacistic tendencies are majorly revolting.

On the other hand, they know they are very surely on the path to becoming a developed nation within the next few decades and they have already started acting like one. Very assertive and rightfully so.

Indian govt is still nursing its pangs of sycophancy - it doles out billions in quotas, degrades its own institutions of higher education and has never shown any backbone - whether its borders are violated or whether its citizens are blown up in broad day light by terrorists.

Indian illiterate masses who elected Sonia for being an “Indira look alike” are responsible for this. And they will continue to send more illiterate buffoons thoroughly brainwashed by socialism to handle a country as complex as India.

Its a pity that educated people cannot govern this country and we have to rely on these traitors - communists, socialists, etc.

Its time we got rid of this sick Nehruvian idiot and his bunch of Nehruvian screwballs who want to lick China’s backside. They don’t seem to have learnt anything from the past.

mmm on the otherside, I see where this is coming from. Isn’t Manmohan going to meet Bush to resolve the nuclear issue today? Looks like he’s just telling Bush what his alternatives are. But seriously? I wish we don’t touch anything Chinese politically, ideologically or commercially.

I learnt so much about Chinese people and culture by meeting first generation, highly educated, brilliant guys here in US. They are mostly HAN, consider themselves “free thinkers” and laugh at all religions. But they are very racially and culturally conscious.

The only thing they seem to believe in is extreme nationalism. When they are drunk enough, they confide that they want to see the entire world dominated by China and they couldnt care less about India if we became communist, or anything else.. as India is weak and non-threatening.

Guess they learnt a very harsh lesson from the Nanjing massacre and the Unit 731 atrocities.

Remove YAMATO (Japanese) and substitute HAN (Chinese) and you get the picture of what horrors could portend.

Indian communists and socialists are making fools of themselves. Chinese dont want to befriend India, whether we altogether declare ourselves as a communist country and act as their slaves or not.

NO one can befriend China, not even Pakistan, even though they are getting some weapons and technology now because they only need countries to help their well defined strategy for development and relations.

China is aspiring to be an asian version of Nazi Germany sans the jew murders. And unfortunately for India, its well on its way to becoming a second superpower within our lifetime. Only thing we can do is to realize how grave the situation would be in south asia if that happens. Our govt will atmost act servile to them, and think they can appease a monster that has no intention in befriending anyone due to pure racial reasons...but it wont work.

Hope India comes under NATO since I dont even trust Indian govt to defend her own people or borders anymore.

I am assuming this rhetoric is only for playing to the gallery. Behind closed doors I would expect some hard talking. If not then we are in serious trouble. Personally I don't have much confidence in Dr. Manmohan Singh or his Congress......let alone the commies. I wish we could know whats going and what the government intends to do about AP dispute. Territorial integrity is more important then trade and friendship with China.

You are seriously insulting the intelligence of Indians if you think they “voted” Sonia in & also dancing to the Congress tune!!The BJP,at it’s height in 1999(after Kargil coupled with Vajpayee’s stature) could manage 180 odd seats-still needing almost a 100 more for a majority.Look at the Congress in 2004-less than 150 seats-needing twice as many seats from supporters to stay alive.

Since the end of the Emergency and the start of the Mandal/Masjidera,Indian politics at the national level has become an extension of the state level game, with national policy never really figuring in the debate. You won’t expect any political party to say or do the things that we expect them too because they are themselves fragmented. The Congress, the BJP & the Communists only have various regional satraps angling for power.Vajpayee & Sonia don’t count for much in the big equation.Heck, the only political leaders in India who can win an election on their own right are Mayawati & Jayalalitha.Even “strong” leaders like The W.B Chief Minister or Narendra Modi have plenty of dissenters.

This confusion has ensured that foreign policy has remained more or less the same since the time of Rajiv Gandhi in the mid 80s-closer ties with the US & Israel, reaching out to Near Eastern & West Asian nations like Iran, rapproachment with the Chinese on the border issue, confusion over Pakistan.Only the degree has varied under different political outfits.Whether this is good or bad,is for us to judge, but it’s more or less unavoidable.
