I think Republicans everywhere are having a collective sigh of relief over the Amnesty bill being shelved. But it will only be shelved for a short period of time if Reid, Kennedy and some select Republicans have their way. I personally think it might have ended the Republican party because the party faithful was enraged and feeling extremely betrayed. Even so, the vote was extremely and astoundingly close. This is why the heat our esteemed Republican senators felt must be continued. Amazingly, Obama and McCain of all people didn't even vote on cloture. Here is the list of Republicans that voted yea on cloture which would have ended debate and amendments and probably would have ensured amnesty for millions of illegals:
McConnel Lott Specter Domenici Grassley Voinovich Craig Collins Brownback Alexander Isakson
I will be most happy if this issue stays alive and becomes part of the next election debate and decisions.
I just think these guys have to pay. I’d love to see each and every one of them in tight primaries. They obviously don’t care about their base because the base really let them have it and they still voted against us. They are arrogant and drunk with power.
According to the Senate website, and his own press release, Grassley voted “NO” on cloture.
His press release:
Do you have other information?
Just begun? Where have they been?
Time for Sessions, Cornyn, DeMint and company to come up with a security first, no guest worker, no amnesty alternative and pitch it to the people before the traitors come bring this bill back up.
That list is wrong. That may have been an earlier debate. McCain was on the latest tally, as were, I think, 6 other Republicans. I believe 12 Dems also voted “Nay”.
It’s in the long thread about the bill going down.

Obama, and McCain voted for cloture. McConnel, Lott, Domenici, Grassley, Craig, Collins, Alexancer, and Isakson all voted against Cloture. Brownback didn't vote. Spector, and Voinovich voted for cloture.
Here are the 7 Rs that voted for cloture:
McCain, Hagel, Graham, Lugar, Specter, Voinovich, and Martinez. Coburn and Brownback didn’t vote.
Too many names on the original list who would never in a million years vote for cloture, and if they did there were circumstances that I would want to know about.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Ordinary citizens are “having a collective sigh of relief,” yes.
I still think it will be back sooner than later. I have NO trust in the GOP anymore.
Sure it’s a political victory that the bill didn’t make it through but the illegal immigration problem hasn’t been solved. When it is (which will be never, in my cynical estimation) then we can breathe a sigh of relief.
BINGO!!! You are correct. The illegal problem is still alive and growing. Also, the Americans are still killing their babies at the rate of over one million per year. MORE ILLEGALS AND LESS AMERICANS, that was the victory in the Senate Thursday!
Good post. There’s an old Communist tactic that I’m suspecting will be employed now.
First, you introduce a policy detestable to so many free people, then you retreat during the backlash. Later on, you implement smaller bits and pieces when people are mentally used to dealing with the whole large problem. Their paradigm has been reset, as it were, to view the policy in it’s whole form. (Our inexorable slide to socialized medicine si a perfect example.)
This is no doubt in play now with the immigration issue. The control freaks won’t stop- NEITHER SHOULD WE.
To those in Washington who attacked the conservative base for demanding enforcement of existing laws, WE BID YOU FAREWELL.
State GOP leaders need to get busy right now finding candidates to replace every senator who was for Citizenship for Illegals, regardless of which party they are in. This fight isn't over yet and the Pro-Amnesty senators have not yet begun to pay.
And another thing:
I don’t really care who voted for cloture or not- I’m interested in who supported the bill from the beginning. The dirtbag Martinez didn’t even make that cloture list! He’s one of the ringleaders.
FOX News is reporting that the beast is still breathing.
According to this morning’s reports the “Republican negotiators” want to bring it back in a few weeks.
TheThinker is dead-on.
We have much work to do.

The best chance for this bill to get passed was for it to be quickly done.
The bill has lost its momentum and the House will not want to deal with it.
The MSM hates to admit defeat.
