Bush Surgeon General Pick Manipulated Medical Studies to Advance Anti-Gay Ideology

In the latest example of the Bush Administration putting an extreme right wing ideology ahead of sound science and public policy, President Bush nominated Dr. James Holsinger to serve as America’s next Surgeon General. Holsinger’s nomination to serve as the nation’s top doctor for the next four years comes despite his troubling record of manipulating medical studies to make ideologically-motivating, anti-gay arguments.

According to reports, Holsinger authored a paper outlining what he viewed as a medical argument for why homosexuality isn’t natural or healthy. Experts said the paper, used footnotes from mainstream medical publications to put “political ideology over science” and represented pre-1970s views on human sexuality. [ABCNews.com, 6/7/07] The report raises troubling questions about whether Holsinger can be trusted to put his partisan and ideological agenda aside and serve as a Surgeon General for all Americans.

President Bush’s selection of Holsinger to be America’s top doctor comes after his nomination of Henrietta Holsman Fore to lead the U.S. Agency for International Development despite a troubling record of racist remarks and stereotyping minorities. President Bush chose her to lead an agency responsible for distributing U.S. aid despite the fact that she was forced to resign as a trustee of Wellesley College after calling Hispanics “lazy” and claiming that African Americans were more interested in selling drugs than working. [New York Times, 2/12/87]

“By nominating a man who tried to use his medical background to espouse offensive and outdated notions to be America’s next Surgeon General, President Bush is continuing his disturbing pattern of promoting an extreme ideological agenda at the expense of the American people,” said Democratic National Committee spokesman Damien LaVera. “All Americans deserve a Surgeon General who they can trust to serve our country, not another right wing crony who will promote their extreme ideological agenda at all costs.”

No matter what you think about whether it’s “natural,” there is no way it can be argued that the gay lifestyle is “healthy.”

We know what his findings are, and we know that the Democrats love homosexuals. The question is, can they prove that he “manipulated” his data?

I doubt it.

If it was peer reviewed and appeared in scientific journals, then you can be sure it was checked extremely closely, precisely because it went against the flow of political correctness.

How does a desire to see gays recover equate to an “extreme right wing ideology”?

Why is the DNC picking on Bush?
He has insulted those who stuck with him the longest, we don’t care.

maybe I'm missing something (wouldn't be the first time) but what's wrong using footnotes from mainstream medical publications??? seems you'd be backing up your contention/opinion....

And homosexuals manipulated studies and used political manuvering to get the psychiatric and psycholgists to drop homosexuality from the offical list of mental disorders. Until 1973 homosexuality was considered a form of mental illness or emotional problem. So how can they complain that someone manipulated studies about this subject?

"Outdated? Does this mean that knowledge has a expiration date like a loaf of bread?

If he had only manipulated studies regarding second-hand smoke it would’ve been OK.

Experts said...Who ? What "experts"?

...used footnotes from mainstream medical publications?! What is he supposed to use, "Dr. Chuck's guide to Doctorin' and sheep shearing"?

Represented pre-1970s views? Before the "mainstream" medical journals had homosexuality removed from their list as a pathology under pressure from gay activist groups?

"According to reports, Holsinger authored a paper outlining what he viewed as a medical argument for why homosexuality isn’t natural or healthy."

Typical spin by the Lefists: "according to reports" is the factual equivalent of "un-named sources", which is un-verifiable, and a pantload in and of itself.

Because it was anti-faggot, and anti-dyke, pandering to the sex deviate base, the DNC mounts an offensive because of their disagreement with conservative moral values?

You can bet that with this Suregeon General appointment assault for this, and just imagine the outrage over Conservative Supreme Court Appointee's in the future, should RB Ginsberg have to retire or resign while GWB is still in the White House.....

If this guy were the greatest physician who ever lived the islademocommucrats and RINO’s in the Senate would never confirm him. But with a the very real possibility of ending up like Scooter Libby, he’s better off anyway.

SD....your comment is correct but allow me to elaborate.

This fellow used “PRE-1970’s” notions about human sexuality as a basis for his paper? Well I sure would like to know what those pre-1970’s notions are. So far as I know there is no great divide pre-1970’s and after as concerns sexuality. Sex and reproduction weren’t much different before 1970 or after 1970.

And how about he used FOOTNOTES of main stream publications. Man, the audacity to use FOOTNOTES, this will raise your ire.

Here’s what us fools out here in la-la land know. Sex involves a male and a female and there are corresponding parts that make it work. Indeed all the animals on the planet pretty much work the same way and pay no mind what some might try to tell you, no other animal save some really strange circumstances, practices homosexuality on any level as done by human beings. NONE.

And hey, I am one who believes that AIDS and other sexually transmitted disease happen for a reason. For abnormal behavior of any kind, behavior contra-nature, almost always brings about abnormal results. The norm for humans is one mate at a time and nature punishes the promiscuous and the abberant.

God the homos hate this factoid that they cannot change.

I count only 4 iterations of “ideological” in four paragraphs, so the DNC attack machine must be on vacation.
