Immigration bill's demise suggests many are OK with status quo
San Francisco Chronicle | June 9, 2007 | Carolyn Lochhead

Posted on 06/09/2007 4:30:11 AM PDT by Baladas

The collapse of the giant immigration overhaul in the Senate might demonstrate that the dreaded status quo -- 12 million people living in the country illegally and more arriving each day -- is not really so dreadful after all.

The multitude of interests involved in the immigration debate -- business groups, ethnic lobbies, politicians in both parties and the American public -- in the end proved unwilling to yield enough to support the bipartisan compromise.

As California Sen. Dianne Feinstein, a Democrat who helped negotiate the failed deal, said, the current immigrant situation in the United States is a de facto amnesty. Even the most ardent advocates of a border crackdown concede that it will be impossible to apprehend and deport 12 million people living here illegally.

But as much as everyone complains about the situation, the enormous black market in labor operating openly in the United States serves the interests of many involved, however imperfectly. It is an amnesty without amnesty.

[snip]

The Senate might yet resurrect the bill. Feinstein and other supporters vowed Friday to press forward. President Bush is scheduled to meet Tuesday with Republican senators at the Capitol.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., threatened to attach the immigration overhaul to bills naming a post office if it comes to that. "We are not giving up; we are not giving in," said Sen. Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts, the top Democratic sponsor.

They don’t write these articles for us, but rather for the marginally informed. Way to keep the big government propaganda machine churning out their excrement.

And think of all the money they spend on university educations just to become as stupid as this Carolyn. It boggles the mind.

She even forgets how to spell her last name. It's supposed to start with a "B."

One more time for Carolyn. Just to help her understand.

You have a leak in a pipe in an upstairs bathroom.

A plumber comes and offers to punch a hole in a pipe in your basement, so that less water will get up to the bathroom to leak.

You say: “stupid idea!”

Your husband says: “Carolyn, that means you LIKE the leak in your bathroom!”

Now, Carolyn, can you see where the husband might be not be using the brains that god gave a gnat?

Can you apply this reasoning to the larger picture? Can you try to measure up to gnat-brain-power? (It’s not hard. Just try.)

If the double layer fence is built and we start deporting those 600,000 who have defied deportation orders, then I’m willing to think about some kind of amnesty but never citizenship. But the simple fact is the rats in DC have so much contempt for Americans they won’t even take thee two steps.
We are scum to them. We don't matter. We are just the source-cash for their spending initiatives, nothing more.

We do not need a NEW law, we just need to ENFORCE the current laws.

Media counter-attack - Key phrases: Status quo, defacto amnesty, North Carolina crop rot, “immigrants” disappointed. etc... They’re pulling out all the stops to turn this around. Time for more calls and mailings.

“BUILD THE DANM WALL AND ENFORCE THE LAWS WE HAVE!!”

Such a simple concept that seems to escape the fools in D.C.

We won't be fooled again by an "amnesty now, enforcement later" law like 1986.

Right on. It's the old "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me."

Is that what it really means, Carolyn. Is that what it really means inside your your teeny, tiny, brain-damaged head?

As I started reading this garbage penned by Carolyn, I instantly thought what a (B)Lochhead. A more fitting name not withstanding. Blackbird.

No, it dosen’t. It suggests that many do not wish blanket annesty given to blant law violators.

The many, if I read it correctly, wish for the immigration laws now on the books to be enforced.

I'm not surprised that the San Francisco Comical / Carolyn Lockedbrain would say something like this. There will surely be many who will believe that there is only one way -- their way -- to solve the problem.

Time for more calls and mailings

Because believe you me, the other side is not giving up.
My co-worker listens to the dang spanish radio and they were on there yesterday coaching people to call in.

In fact, I don't think most people realize how much advocacy goes on to help the illegals. There are people on that station pretty much every day teaching them how to work the system. And, several of them are obviously not native spanish-speakers.

I know that. Also, the slaves must be punished for daring to question their master’s actions.

My personal opinion is, the American people deserve everything the Democrats do to them because they made the Democrats the majority party in the ‘06 elections.

I’m Not Comfortable with th status quo. I want these Borders and Immigration law enforced. These Government officials are Not doing their constitutional duties that the took an oath to uphold.

They either do their jobs or they should be removed from office through an election or impeachment proceedings.

OK with the status quo?

Is that how they’re going to spin it? Good God!

How about we want them out and the border closed. Is that status quo?

We do not need a NEW law, we just need to ENFORCE the current laws.

INDEED!

We as a nation need to insist that the President adhere to the obligations he is mandated to carry out in our Constitution i.e. "...he shall take care that the laws are faithfully executed..."

reporters stupid?

Most of them anyway....but this article does make a good point.

We've got millions NOW pouring across our border, the are illegally voting, driving, and sucking down social services. They are NOW taking jobs that Americans WILL fill. They are depressing wages of other Americans by taking jobs at 2 to 4 dollars an hour. They are committing crimes, clogging our jails, and jamming our emergency rooms.

That's what we've got NOW.

And no one's doing anything about it, and everyone's happy as a lark about that, apparently.

So, for the dems and the rino's this past week was a win/win. They either got a bill that gave them more of what they like, or they got the status quo which they like.

Conservatives on the other hand are back-slappin' and high fivin' after getting diddly squat.

They hate the current situation (Plan A) and they rightfully hated the McCain/Kennedy Illegal Amnesty Bill (Plan B), and now they're left with Plan A and not a single solitary gleam of light at the end of the tunnel. What they've got is about 40 or 50 senators willing to look good with conservatives by keeping Plan A...and grinning all the while with their fingers crossed behind their backs.

In short, they've got nothing. The reality of our system is that forty or fifty senators can't pass nothing; and, if these clowns had to, they wouldn't.

Conservatives did not "win" this past week.

I like that analogy. :)

The Congressional Budget Office estimated that this amnesty plan would only reduce illegal immigration by 25%. In light of that, how can Blockhead expect anyone to take her statement seriously? She's saying we want the status quo. Good grief! This amnesty plan guarantees it!
