My affectionate Handsome Human has given me a snuggly long Cravat
That matches my Umbrella and nicely compliments his Scarf and tall crowned Hat
Whose wide band shares the same hue as his night wrap and rigid Brolly

That accompany us upon Nocturnal quests that many see as folly
Keeping away the rain, though not the mist that sheens my fur
For amidst a thick cold Fog. Mysterious things have been rumored to occur!
Not the least of which, the unexplained disappearance of Flowers

That appear to have been picked randomly during the Early Morning hours
Lost in a soot smeared swirl of mist and the far off sounds of Horses
Leaving the bumbling Flying Squad whispering about Supernatural Forces

Scratching their heads in befuddlement over the Spectre's selection and flight
As the Men Who Live Under Umbrellas and Hats slip deeper into the Night
Mingling with shadows which make it hard to determine This from That
Aided by the unerring senses of their pampered Talismanic Cat

The Umbrella is set aside to dry throughout the Day
Which means that sometime soon I can unwind to roam and Play
After a rewarding Breakfast of Fresh Fish and sweet Cream
That will no doubt bring on the urge to close my Eyes and Dream

Of echoed footsteps lost in the mist of lamp lit cobbled Streets
Under swirling, sheened Umbrellas whose second purpose is to defeat
The discovery or the identities of the Men Who Live Under Umbrellas and Hats
Who move through the Night shadowed City trailing swirling Cloaks and long Cravats

Gathering random Flowers for anonymous forgotten Ladies to sell the next Day
Under dark low hanging clouds while their Mysterious Benefactors are away
Only to make themselves ready once more after the Sun has long gone down
When Hats will be donned, Umbrellas unfurled and scarves wrapped round and round
I will mount my Handsome Human's shoulder, making a contented purring sound

That may be swallowed up by Cloaks and Hats deflecting the starless Night's chill rain
While The Men Who Live Under Umbrellas and Hats decide what Treasures to attain
Throughout the beginning and waning hours of their Midnight promenade
Faithfully following their Noble Quest while maintaining a Spectral facade

Winds Of Fate






The wearing of certain accessories require a modicum of care
Especially when adding the consequence of swiftly moving air
Perhaps, along the side of a Mountain or on the edge of a gusting Shore
Swaddled in misty rain and sharp winds that can chill down to the core

The trick is to lean your Umbrella and Scarf into the Wind's force
To create an Island of Serenity against Nature's sometimes wild discourse
That works with diligence, but sometimes embarrassingly fails

When pitted against constantly shifting and twisting Seasonal Gales
What one must never do is turn their body and attention to the Lee!
For there is a very good chance you'll glimpse a Scarf suddenly flee
While waiting for another Swan or youngster to circle, bank and alight

The last thing wanted is to see a Scarf or Umbrella suddenly take Flight
There's but one thing left to do and that is to gather up the will
To trap the twisting errant Flyer with either webbed Feet or long Bill

This is my Grandson's ship assignment for his
Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron
He will be leaving soon on a 3 month cruise then return to port in
Hawaii for two weeks and leave again for 6 months..Persian Gulf.
