If the tech is so viable, then why don't the various state apple growers associations fund the research??

I just make up imaginary machines and throw dumb ideas out on the board for conversation sake......how should I know? :)

When you've done it as long as I have, you can recognize crap when you see it, even if it's not directly related.

I'll bet Mr. Petersen would take acception to that statement.....but then.....he doesn't know how much more you know about how his machine operates ....than he does. After all, he just developed it, for Pete's sake.

You see, I "did" read Petersen's research paper, and to get his gizmo to work, the apple trees must be "trained" into a very specific geometry--it won't work on just any old apple tree.

Training trees for production and harvest is not a new concept......but I'm sure you knew that. If you read Petersen's research paper... you also know why the funding got diverted, right? :)

Which is why it "is" an imaginary solution. It's certainly not a REAL one.

You're just ticked cause you didn't think of it first. *chuckle*

Finally a true statement. Enough with your inanities.

Spud packers need spud pickers.

Greedy, immoral, spud packers need underpaid, illegal, spud pickers.

I picked beans in Idaho, once, and they didn’t pay American white boy enough to encourage him to pick a second bushel.

On the other hand, if there were ever a time where Vasquez could gather a second wind, it'd be now.

Yes, that's the way I see it too. Craig voted against the bill for what he is attempting to represent as tactical reasons but I think the true reason is that he heard the voices from home and they weren't happy.

That's the reason for the "leadership" spiel - what he's selling is that he's wiser and better-informed than his constituents and that he is obligated to vote against their preferences for their own good as an act of conscience. What it actually means is that he has his seat and his vote and he'll use it as he sees fit no matter what the voters' preference, and his job as a politician is to tell us that it's raining while he's peeing on our collective leg. Larry, if you're reading this, please believe me - we aren't rubes and we aren't buying it.

I don't want a "leader." I want a representative. Anyone who doesn't understand and respect the difference has no place in government, and in Idaho at least we can still throw them out on their butts. Believe it.

We’ve got more than enough “man power” spending our tax dollars sitting in US Prisons! Make our tax dollars work for us, offer the non-violent crimes prisoners incentives or dollars or whatever to pick the crops...saves the farmers, saves the taxpayers, gets rid of the illegals. SOLUTIONS, not more EXCUSES - if I hear 1 more time that they are just doing the jobs Americans won’t do, I’m gonna blow a gasket!

I don't want a "leader." I want a representative.

The sad thing is there's a portion of the electorate that doesn't see that difference.

Craig, who is considering running for a fourth term next year, has championed the cause of the state's growers...

If you look at the opinion of the distinct minority of those that favor the bill, only 9% cite the need for more workers. Importing Mexicans for cheap labor is the narrow monied interest of the few, essentially corruption.

I have been a big supporter of both Mike Crapo and Larry but have sent some pretty nasty letters to Craig this past month. I told Craig he was a walking poster child for mandatory term limits and that the Washington system had corrupted him. Besides, when you look at the ranking of influencial Senators, he and Crapo are in the 60’s out of 100. Idaho deserves better and when guys like me are disgusted, Craig is in trouble. He should not stand for election and should just run for governor as seems to be the tradition.

I have written many such letters to my Senator Sam Brownback (whom I worked full time as a "volunteer" for his first elections, primary and general.) My husband and I each gave the max to him and I held fund-raisers for him, whom as a conservative could not garner the huge donations that the RINOs get.

Looking back, going to Washington is what ruined our Mr. Smith (Brownback.)

There must indeed be something in the water there, that whatever they profess to believe back home, they soon forget and sign on with the "big boys" to assure their future elections and to hell with the home folks.

I have told Sam that whatever it takes and no matter how long it takes, he WILL be returned to his former day job, if I have anything to do with it and as a local elected party official, I expect to have some say. At least our other Sen. Pat Roberts, hasn't sold us for a few tacos, yet, anyway!!!

I was very upset with your Senator Craig as my daughter and son-in-law have been ID residents for about 5 years and I was the one who encouraged my daughter to think of moving to ID because I felt that they had such good representation in congress that the residents there must have a good level head and elect people for whom ID can be proud.

Unfortunately, I have completely changed my mind.

It really is discouraging to see the change in these guys...I’ve lunched with Craig on a couple of occasions when he visited the small town where we live and I have always been impressed with his involvement in the NRA. I sent a letter to him suggesting that when in doubt about whether legislation is good or bad, to just look who is supporting it. If Teddy Kenedy is an author, the legislation is bad for Republicans, conservatives and bad for Idaho and America.

“I don’t want a “leader.” I want a representative.”

Sad thing is that a representative could also be a poll watcher who doesn’t make hard choices that go against public opinion.
