Republicans Gain Trust on Immigration, Dems Still Have Edge on Ten Key Issues
Rasmussen Reports ^ | June 10, 2007 | Rasmussen Reports

Posted on 06/11/2007 10:19:14 AM PDT by Kuksool

Voters continue to trust Democrats more than Republicans on ten key issues tracked by Rasmussen Reports. In fact, the latest tracking update on five of these issues shows Democrats gaining ground modestly on four of the five issues. However, there is one major exception to the trend—immigration.

A month ago, the Democrats had a fourteen-point advantage on the immigration issue. Following the Senate debate, the Democrats’ advantage has been cut to five points. Forty percent (40%) of voters now trust Democrats more than Republicans on immigration while 35% have more confidence in the GOP. The Republicans still lag Democrats on this issue, but they lag on every issue. Immigration is now tied with taxes as the GOP’s strongest issue. It’s also the only issue on which unaffiliated voters trust Republicans more than Democrats.

The only believable stat was Harry Reid’s 19% favorability.

Either they are polling in a mental asylum or Rasmussen (who admittedly is one of the “better” pollsters) is making a BS poll, oversampling Dems... which leads us back to the mental asylum.

This is only because the President is week on real conservative ideas and relentlessly strong on all the wrong issues. People that once believed in the party of change saw that same party become the problem. And in 5 years when a lot of these RINO senators go up for re-election, we will sit here on Free Republic and root for them.

It is definitley time to remember who is really in and who has abandoned us. Enough election time talk and then do nothing leadership. That is why I can’t trust McCain and especially Romney. At least Fred acts the part really well.

oops wrong post.

This is not over yet. Bush refuses to give up this easily. It's his stuborn character. He will try to resurect it and call it something else. We have to keep our guard up. We need to keep the pressure up.

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

As an adendum, we should anonymously call the IRS, people working "off the books" means taxes ain't being paid. Make anonymous fliers and hang them around the neighborhood, name names. It's time to embarras these bustards, whether they give to the GOP or Rats, we don't need them.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

I believe the poll. We can’t delude ourselves here—remember the confidence everyone had right before the ‘06 elections? Everybody thought we were going to gain seats!

I don’t think the majority of the (non-Southern) public trusts the Republican Party on just about anything anymore. Too many betrayals/mistakes on things like immigration and Iraq, too much scandal.

That can change if the GOP puts on a real conservative face, but people don’t trust this GOP. I live in a pretty purple area, and I can tell you that even Bush voters I know are starting to believe the Edwards line about “tax cuts for the rich.”

Interestingly, the Paris Hilton issue is also a problem. there’s a lot of people out there who see how much money the wealthy are paying, and don’t really think they earend their wealth (like her). want to see rich elitists like her pay down the deficit, and cutting spending doesn’t look so good anymore in the wake of Katrina and the like.

This party needs a total makeover so it looks less like liberal grasshoppers, and more like conservative ants. Otherwise we’re doomed to significant minorities in all both chambers of congress, and in the presidency.

They’re not joking, they’re getting the results they want. Just like the kid testing the water in his middle school.

The sad thing is that the progress on the Iraqi War has given credibility to the extreme left. The Moveon types opposed the war from the beginning. With public support for Iraqi fading, the uniformed voters are beginning to think the extreme left is correct on other things. Thanks to Iraqi, the GOP has lost credibility on all the issues.

Taxes
Immigration
Nat’l Security

Those are the big three, but not in that order. If the Repubs can make those three their campaign Clarion then the Democraps have no counter points to offer for their side. In fact, I think the order should be 1). Nat’l Security, 2). Taxes, and 3). Immigration. All of them, the Democraps would wither under the harsh glare of the spotlight.

National Security – They all wanted to withdraw the troops. Harry Reid has already declared that we have lost.

Taxes, Hildebeast has already said she needs to take back the tax breaks from us.

Immigration – Well heck they want to throw open the borders rather than enforce the law of the land.

Can you see Obama or Hillary debating any of those issues effectively against either Rudy, Fred, or Duncan?

If the Republican party didn’t have an albatross named Bush hanging around it’s neck, dragging it into the gutter, we’d beat them 90-10 on immigration.

I believe only when the evidence warrants, not because of party initials.

So far, Capitol Hill has rightfully earned Americans’ disdain and proven itself a shame and disgrace.

I do not believe this poll. Trust the Demos on taxes? Are they joking?

I think there are several reasons for this.

1) Some people recognize that you can't cut taxes without spending. GWB didn't cut my taxes; he just put them on a credit card, which I'll have to pay later. Plus interest. Plus the Boomer's bill.

2) The Bush tax cuts mostly went to "the rich." The Dems have done a good job of convincing the average Joe that he has to pay more (and/or get less) because "the rich" aren't paying their fair share. The majority of voters are "the rich," nor do they understand the nature of the economy -- they aren't going to figure out that soaking "the rich" really hurts everybody (as a friend of mine pointed out: how many poor people have you ever worked for?)
