An Iowa congressman says there's plenty of reason to celebrate now that the controversial "comprehensive immigration reform" bill in the Senate has been defeated. The measure would have given automatic legal status to millions of illegal aliens in the U.S.Supporters of the legislation could only pull together 45 votes on Friday to limit debate and speed the process of getting final passage. Sixty votes were needed on the procedural matter. Steve King (R-Iowa) was a harsh critic of the bill and was prepared to fight it in the House had it made out of the Senate Chamber. The Iowa lawmaker says the bill would have been a disaster for the American middle class.
"We would have ended up being a nation of elitists or a nation of serfs on the other end," he says, "servants to take care of the mansions of the people who owned the factories that capitalized on the cheap labor, and the middle class would have been sacrificed along with the Rule of Law. That was what was at stake."
The Republican lawmaker applauds the American people for the bill's demise. "I want to give the credit to a real body of work that's done by talk radio, print media, television media, the American people who weighed in," he comments. "Everybody was a team on this, and it did resonate."
There is plenty of reason to celebrate, he says. "It is a very good feeling to see that the voice of the
American people resonated clear inside the United States Senate chambers," he shares. "I think there were people dancing in the streets in cities across America [after the vote]. I hope I can see the tape of some of that someday."
King says Congress should now act to move forward with implementation of last year's comprehensive immigration bill, which put in place stronger enforcement measures.
Steve King gets it.
Its time for the congress to get in tune. I’m sick of members not hearing the people. For decades its been an insult that we send them to congress and they represented big business. I hope the rubber is meeting the proverbial road now.
round 1 is over, but those who rightly oppose the bill shouldn’t be sitting on their hands right now. Doing so still leaves those wanting amnesty the upperhand if there’s no alternative presented. Senators and House members opposed to it should be huddling together and coming up with their own bill. Call a news conference present it to the people, point out where their bill fixes the glaring holes in the other one, and then get the phones and faxes rolling in in support of it. Let’s stuff one down their throats for a change.
“round 1 is over, but those who rightly oppose the bill shouldnt

Agreed.
Hence the KEYWORD: VAMPIREBILL
Because “comprehensive immigration reform” as envisioned by the majority
of the US Senate is simply a blood-sucking (aka TAX EXTORTION)
of the legal US residents in order to enrich a bunch of illegal immigrants.
And get votes for the politicians from the illegals and their relatives.
Pushed by a bunch of US Senators with MUCH lower ethics and brainpower
than the average Used-Car Saleman.
(said with apologies to the decent used-car sale-persons I’ve
dealt with before.)
Just say NO to Amnesty!! Keep calling!! Its NOT OVER!!

He is one of the good guys in this fight. Had a chance to ride with him and Jim Gilchrist from the town of Laredo to out on the border to inspect actual border conditions during the kickoff of the 60 day Minuteman Project /Texas Minutemen Border Watch Operation (Laredo / Eagle Pass). Solid individual. An exception to the rule in DC. We need to reverse that.
Even before the first cloture vote I read somewhere King saying the bill was dead and that it was going down. He must have had the inside scoop. By the sound of it now he doesn’t appear too concerned that it’s coming back and I hope he’s right again.
