Destruction of Human Embryos a “Gift from God” says Catholic House Speaker

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 11, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The ability to destroy human embryos to cure diseases is a “gift from God” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a self-described “devout Catholic”, referring to the recent bill passed to fund human embryonic stem-cell research.

“Science is a gift of God to all of us and science has taken us to a place that is biblical in its power to cure,” said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). “And that is the embryonic stem cell research.”

Pro-life and Catholic leaders, however, have found Pelosi’s statement shocking for its suggestion that God would provide so-called “biblical” powers of healing by the means of the destruction of human life.

“I’m not sure what world Nancy Pelosi lives in, but it’s not this world. She’s not connected to reality,” said Rev. Thomas Eutenauer of Human Life International in an interview with LifeSiteNews.com. Eutenauer stated that Pelosi’s radical embracing of an anti-life agenda deserves “excommunication.” He added that the reluctance of the American bishops in general to discipline Nancy Pelosi and other politicians for using the Catholic faith to justify immoral positions is a source of great scandal to the Church.

Tony Perkins, the head of the Family Research Council, similarly responded with disgust. "Pelosi must not have learned from Rudy Giuliani's experience during the GOP debate when the building was struck by lightening as he sought to justify abortion," he said.

"Of course, it's complete nonsense to suggest that God wants us to destroy human embryos, since they are His own creation," Perkins continued. "This is just the latest example of the Left's aggressive efforts to lure the unsuspecting into supporting immoral and unethical policies which are whitewashed with spiritual words and phrases."

The Archdiocese of San Francisco, Pelosi’s home diocese, was not able to provide comment on Pelosi’s statements or on her status as a Catholic in the archdiocese by press time

I thought she had converted to Islam during that “special” Dem. meeting where the Islamic prayerof conversion was given, and they all said “amen”. And we know how cheap life is in that realm of evil.

She, like the rest of those blood thirsty ghouls, is an abomination.

I know there are a great number of monsters who would gladly sacrifice innumerable lives to extend their own for just one more day, but I could never live with myself if my life came at the cost of a dead baby.

No life is worth slaughtering the unborn and those who would are unworthy of the life they do have.

The great thing about cafeteria Catholicism is that you can pick and choose what you like, and avoid those yucky nutritional dishes.

I’ll say amen to that. Pelosi, John F’ing Kerry and Kennedy should be excommunicated.

And it is a great scandal that they have yet to be.

How about if we destroyed the embryos that would’ve been her grandchildren?

As long as their Christmas checks come to their home diocese, don't hold your breath. The Roman Catholic Church protects assets first, then the clergy, then the flock.

Product of 10 years of catholic education and proudly Missouri Synod Lutheran. My opinion, and I know it will rankle many. I do not mean any vitriol or meanness.

“Articles on embryo adoption that ran in the New York Times and the Cincinnati Post noted that many more couples want to adopt frozen embryos than there are embryos available for adoption.”

And even if it were not the case, it will only encourage women to sell embryos, so mad scientists will have enough for their evil experiments.

It is NOT against the law to experiment on embryos. But they want our tax dollars to do so. They don’t want to use their own $$. Venture capitalists aren’t investing in ESC research.

The Roman Catholic Church protects assets first, then the clergy, then the flock.

I am well aware of this.

The Bishops see this as simple management of the Churches assets; fiscal necessity.

Unfortunately this is typical American Stile management; short term thinking while ignoring the long term damage.

The bishops are sacrificing the long term viability of the Church is favor of short term financial solvency.

Not to mention that they are failing in their duty to lead the flock in the path of righteousness.

G_d does *not* give us other human beings to sacrifice, for *any* reason, Pelosi. If you believe this to truly be a "gift from G_d", then that "god" must needs be Moloch...

And she’s supposed to be a Catholic.

"Supposed " being the operative word in that sentence.

I find it hard to believe that any true believer in Jesus Christ could in any way give their assent to the premeditated killing of 1-1/2 million preborn human beings every year in the "Christian" USA. It's not my place to decide who is and who isn't a Christian, but according to the words of Jesus Christ himself as he held little children on his lap, "But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were drowned in the depth of the sea".

It seems that Jesus really does "loves the little children of the world" as we Baptist kids sang in vacation bible school many decades ago. I wouldn't want to stand before Him some day and try to explain why I voted or worked to protect the "right" of women to kill their unborn children.

then that "god" must needs be Moloch...

Correct.

For those who aren't familiar with the Old Testament, Moloch was the pagan deity to whom the early Canaanites sacrificed their babies and young children. The sacrificial ceremony was particularly horrible in that the children were burned alive on a brass or iron altar.

Of course in our highly civilized culture we don't burn our sacrificial children on a brass altar, we usually either chop them up with scalpels or scald them to death with a strong saline solution introduced into their mother's wombs by a medical doctor who was trained and licensed to heal the sick and save human lives with his or her medical knowledge and skill. There is a great deal of perverse irony in that situation, but people like Ms Pelosi don't seem to see it.

And if we said, correctly, that our Creator does not want us to kill the human lives, Pelosi would say that we are forcing our religion on people.

Don't hold your breath waiting for it. Neiderauer was one of BXVI's worst appointments. Levada was bad but Neideraurer appears to be even worse, yet another of the many bishops who put their Dem party regsistration ahead of the Faith. Like Wuerl in DC. In other words, all pols are off the hook.

AMEN! As a Catholic, I try very hard to follow all the teachings of the Church. Do I fall short from time to time? Yes, because I, like many others, are imperfect. However, it is NOT for lack of trying to do the correct thing. There are CINOs who pick and choose what to follow. I've seen some that have engaged in some pretty immoral behavior march right up to Communion because they don't believe that particular behavior is immoral. Politicians proudly proclaim to be CINOs, and the Church does nothing about it. It's time the Church crack down on people like Ghouliani, Peloozer, John Scary, and Fat Teddy for the sake of setting an example to the rest of the flock.
