"Mitt is surrounding himself with our kind of people."

Mitt is reaching out and surrounding himself with pro-lifers and including us in his bid for the presidency. We will have a place and a voice in his administration. He has also promised to appoint Justices in the vein of Thomas and Scalia, as did President Bush.

If I a not mistaken, Governor Romney has a good track record of keeping his promises, does he not?

You may be right, you may be wrong. No sense speculating until he shows us what he is made of. I for one am far more happy to see Romney and Thompson as the potential frontrunners instead of Rudy and McCain.

Either Romney or Thompson would make okay Presidents for conservatives. Either McCain or Rudy would be disruptive or dangerous to the (currently tenuous) unity of the party and conservative base of it.

Can you provide a conversion date for Fred Thompson?

Yeah, his pro-life stint in the Senate.

You forgot to mention cut and run Paul’s numbers. I thought he was really surging. That is what several FReepers have been saying anyway.

Repeating an untrue statement doesnt make it so.

On the Tonight Show Thompson said he didn’t crave the office of the presidency but he wanted to do some things that only a president can do. Since he is big on states’ rights and wants to kick everything back to them, I’d like to know what those other things are. He wouldn’t say.

Yeah, his pro-life stint in the Senate.

No. Romney had the same record in MA long before his official change. That isn't good enough for you since you think his conversion is recent. Fred and all the other candidates have to be held to the same standards as well.

Fred needs to publicly recant his prior pro-choice views and label himself a pro-lifer. If Romney had to do it than Fred has to also.

In 1994, Romney Campaign Accused Ted Kennedy Of Flip-Flopping On Abortion, Saying "Mitt Has Always Been Consistent In His Pro-Choice Position." "Citing a 1971 letter written by Kennedy, [Romney campaign consultant Charles] Manning responded, `I think the reason they don't trust Ted Kennedy is that he flip-flopped on abortion. He was pro-life before Roe v. Wade and now he's changed. Mitt has always been consistent in his pro-choice position and that's why the group respects him.'" (Bruce Mohl, "Mass. Antiabortion Group Backs Romney," The Boston Globe, 9/8/94)

Sure looks like Mitt is trying to run to the left of Ted on abortion with this comment.

Funny, in the 2002 governors race, he ran on a pro-choice position. AFTER Fred cast his Senate votes on abortion.

He only became POLITICALLY pro-life when he decided to run for the White House. You are free to maintain your delusions to the contrary, but those of us not willing to drink the Romney-Aide ain't fooled.

It’s amazing how strong denial can be.

It’s amazing how strong denial can be.

I'll take your word for that, given that you deny that Mitt was pro-choice until he decided to run for the White House.

And we still don't know if Thompson is pro-life. You are free to maintain your delusions as well.

I see a new campaign slogan - "Thompson 2008 - because truth doesn't matter."

I know this is a strange concept to a Romney booster, but Fred's pro-life voting record in the Senate speaks volumes.

And Fred has also called for Roe to be overturned.

Man, you really need to lay off the Romney-aide. It has severely inhibited your ability to grasp the obvious.

In reference to your tagline:

("Debates are demeaning to the office of the Presidency"-Fred Thompson 6/12/07)

I did a fairly general search on the quote and could not find it. Got link?

I judge men not by what they say but by what they do. Regardless of his public proclamations, Mr. Romney governed as a pro-life conservative. His current stated public positions are now congruent with his actions while Governor of Mass. He will govern as a pro-lifer as president and there is no reason to believe otherwise, based on THAT record.

It would seem some people only pay attention to a person's actions when they fall short of what they say, and ignore them when the situation is the reverse, as in Mitt Romney's case. If one fails to see that Mitt governed as a pro-life conservative, than one is in denial. As usual, you are of course correct, Deborah. : )

Actually, Romney won a South Carolina straw poll quite handily last week. And (surprise surprise) Romney won the Utah straw poll overwhelmingly. I don’t think I’d count Romney out just yet...

The only difference is Fred thinks it's a state's rights issue.

That's not the only difference.

The real difference is that Fred has since accumulated a perfect pro-life voting record (NARAL=0 Nat.Rt.Life=100).

Your Kennedy comparison is pathetic.
