Cancel Rush Limbaugh Or Lose Contract

Wednesday, June 13, 2007 1:26 p.m. EDT Cancel Rush Limbaugh Or Lose Contract

The government in Broward County, Fla., is seeking to cut ties with a local radio station – because it also broadcasts Rush Limbaugh’s show.

Station WIOD AM-610 has been the official channel for emergency information from the county government for the past year. But the County Commission, made up of all Democrats, refused to renew the relationship on Tuesday.

Commissioner Stacy Ritter said she did not want the county to be linked to a station "that’s out of step with area politics,” the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.

She cited talk shows hosted by conservatives Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and WIOD’s partnership with Fox News.

"They have every right to speak, but we don’t have to do business with them,” she said.

But Ken Charles, WIOD’s director of AM programming, told the Sun-Sentinel: "It’s a shame that people would let politics get in the way of saving lives in a hurricane.”

The county’s contract with the station was about to be rejected when commissioners decided to delay a final decision until next week.

What purpose does PBS serve that makes it necessary for the taxpayer to support it?

What part of the First Amendment does this chick not understand? Isn't there a disclaimer before every show, specifically stating that just because his show is on this station, that the station does not necessarily endorse the opinions contained in it?

Not surprised at all that Libs would be so ‘small’ minded.

I think Rush should hire the ACLU. ;)

Now wouldn’t that be rich? LOL

I wouldnt be surprised if ones of these Broward Bozo’s has some $$ interest in a competing station, and is trying to get Rush away from WIOD.

Call it the “John Edwards Syndrome”....poor on the outside, rich on the inside.

If Broward gets away with this...what community will be next to “force Rush off the air”?

When Rush becomes a taxpayer funded org, your argument will become valid.

The fact that the radio station involved is privately owned, and not publicly funded, makes my argument stronger, not weaker. A private enterprise has no right to have the government as a customer, and the government has no obligation to do business with any particular private party. And government has as much right to use political considerations in choosing vendors as they do other factors.

Don't you think the government should have the right to choose to not do business with Nazis, Communinists, Socialists, Abortionists and other such evil organizations?

What a laugh. These Broward County Officials are merely proving that they tried to fix the election returns for Al Gore in 2000.

These Broward liberal iconoclasts are still rubbing their chads together. Of course that station is the BEST for emergency announcements etc., beause EVERBODY listens to it, including Rushbo fans. These Broward Libs never thought of that, OR maybe they did. Maybe they will refuse to renew their contract with the station, and use some new no-count Democrat liberal station that plays monologues by Jesse Jackson, Michael Moore, and Hillery Clinton. With that kind of listening market penetration the next hurricane would go functionally unannounced to the public, only a few liberal listener die hards would get the warning, just what the Broward Dems want, to injure Republicans in a disater situation by failing to give properly announced emergency warnings. The culture wars have ratcheted up one more notch.

Email sent to this pathetic petty person:

According to a news article I read today:

So, based on the above information, you, Stacy Ritter, are willing to place literally thousands of lives at stake because you don't like the messages that these two talk radio hosts air on their programs. You are willing to end the practice of using this radio station for weather warnings for hurricanes and tornadoes because of your hatred of these two men. You are a very pathetic and petty human being, Stacy Ritter. I can only hope that the voters who put you into office see this for what it really is and vote you out before you kill someone with your pettiness.

It’s possible. The vice-mayor’s name is Lois Wexler... her husband is Steve, so maybe she married one of Bob Wexler’s relatives.

Thanks, I sent him this:

I hope you don't wonder why so many folks are absolutely disgusted with the government, and especially democrats. Yes, I said especially Democrats. You may point at President Bush's low ratings, but don't lose sight of the fact that the Democrat-controlled Congress has even lower ratings. Do you ever wonder why? how about childish, but dangerous, antics like stomping your little feet and threatening to not do a necessary public service because a radio station airs Rush Limbaugh? You call yourselves "tolerant" and "progressive", but all your real pushes are toward being intolerant and in favor of censorahip of anyone you don't agree with, especially those that expose the sick and petty truth of your sick and petty Party. I find it abhorant that such as you actually wield power over the citizens. Perhaps you should study a little history - Communism and Socialism don't work and far smarter people than you have tried to prove the proof wrong. Grow up and do what is right for a change. i know you find it scary and disgusting to do the right thing, simply because it's right, but with a little practice, you might find yourself becoming productive instead of being a petty guttersnipe. Have a great day. Bob B.

Yes it si, but tehy're liberals. they don't care about other people's lives. It's contradictory to their philosophy to care about that. All they care about is themselves. Teh next liberal I meet with genuine compassion for anyone but himself will be the first.

Are there any stations in Cuba capable of broadcasting to Broward County? Single party control of political discussion is nada problemo for Castro. And his political views are probably in tune with those of the Broward County commissioners.
