Is there an actual contract for this sort of thing (does money change hands?) Can’t any radio station just download information from NOAA?

Or is this local information — like in New Orleans back in ‘92, the morning before Andrew hit — WWL was saying that you couldn’t get out of town, just go to one of the school shelters....I decided to chance it....I-10 eastbound was clear as a bell....

These days, though, there's little difference.

So much promise, just squandered away.

Only Democrats need to be saved.

Slightly off topic, but is Rush still kowtowing to GWB and the RNC?

Can Rush sue them for infringing on his freedom of speech?

So if they only advertise on left wing nut stations, does that mean the conservative republicans are supposed to not be warned of hurricanes and die? ONLY IN FLORIDUH!!!

Rush or the station could sue I would think.

Since when can government ban a nation wide radio show because it doesn’t meet their politics?

Stacy:

You couldn't provide a better proof why Democrats cannot be trusted to run anything.

Its a shame you don't have a clue about the meaning of freedom, or the opposite of that.. the evil of political coercion of the press.

It is unfortunate that in the list of despicable betrayals of the public trust by elected Democrats, you are only a duffer.

You need to study Jack Murtha, Nancy Pelosi or Harry Reid to perfect this art.

"Liberals stepping on fee speech. Surpirsed?"

There is no free speech issues here. The govenment is not required to support one station over another. This is just stupid.

I thought liberals liked “diversity”? No?

No, they only like diversity and free speech when they approve.

He’s actually started playing a different tune somewhat since he got rid of his ex. I’m not sure if she was the reason he was so worried about what the RNC thought or whether he just stopped caring about what conservatives thought. I couldn’t listen to him, oh, back about when he started hacking Buchanan’s 96 run against Dole, and then a few months back I heard him and he almost SOUNDS LIKE BUCHANAN now! Of course, he could simply be playing to his market, which has always seemed more important to him than any consistent political stripe from what I can see.

I would cancel the contract. Limbaugh means great advertising revenue for the radio station...5 days a week. The government contract just lays a burden on the station for minimum return.

Turn the tables on the idiots. Refuse the contract and let them find an alternative with equivalently good coverage.

Fox news reporting that the public outcry about this stupidity has been great, and they are going to renew the contract.

Apparently the vote isn’t unanimous. I got this reply to my missive (posting 117 of this thread) from Lois Wexler..

Thank you for sharing your comments. I agree that Broward County should use the station that reaches the most people regardless of their other program content. I was prepared to vote in favor of WIOD at Tuesday’s meeting. Staff indicated that WIOD has far greater reach in our community than any of the other stations that were considered for this partnership. However, staff did not provide this documentation as part of the backup for the meeting of June 12. The item was deferred to June 19th so that staff can submit the documentation to the Commissioners. The item will be discussed and voted on at our June 19th regular meeting.

If you have not already done so, I would encourage you to share your
comments with the other Commissioners.

Sincerely,

Lois Wexler
Vice Mayor,
