I would think that anyone watching it may just hesitate voting for Mitt in the end. Although the Mormon Church does not support polygamy - does anyone really believe that is actually the case?
Don’t know about the correlation in your post, to Mitt. But I never watched it, and won’t watch it, ever.
Bruce Dern was on with Bob Costas, he won’t be voting for Mitt. His philosophy is that you can’t believe anything a Mormon says. But he’s not a bigot.
We watch it and would have no problem voting for Romney

Why, oh why, did they pick the good name "Henrickson" to portray a Mormon polygamist? It's not a common name, especially spelled this way (no "d"). And it's an Americanization of "Henriksson," a Swedish name. Swedes, historically, have been Lutheran (as am I), not Mormon.
Correlation - lot’s of Mormon ‘stuff’ is included - not all that complimentary of Mormon’s or the Mormon Church. Sort of cultist. Now, I’m not saying that it’s a cult - it’s just different.

I watch it and find it to be very interesting. I’m not a Mormon (and never will be) but I have a lot of Mormon (and former Mormon) friends. Some even have polygamous relatives. From my perspective it is much more accurate than the LDS church would like you to believe. People like the Henricksons would definitely be a very tiny minority, but they do exist. And, as was described in the last episode, as long as they pay their taxes, don’t commit welfare fraud or traffic in underage girls they probably won’t be hassled much.
But the regular LDS folks take the word of the “Prophet” as straight from God’s lips so thir attitude is that polygamy was God’s will for a particular time and then things changed. They see no conflict in that.
Whatever, for me, there is enough reason not to vote for Romney, totally apart from his faith.

I signed up for free Showtime & HBO a couple of months ago and have been watching alot of their series. Did DEXTER, The BROTHERHOOD, 6 FT UNDER series and then started with the first episode of BIG LOVE and am embarrassed to admit that I got HOOKED. I went all the way thru the first season only to find out that first episode of the 2nd season premiered Monday evening.
It is pure entertainment to me and I don’t get into the Religion part of it at all. It is very interesting to me from that standpoint of how the community/neighbors relate to the family and how the family copes. I am enjoying the actors. There are some excellent comedic moments. THAT’s It!
As for voting for Mitt, I would not expect it to make much of a difference. It is clear in the show that the polygamists are not part of the mainstream LDS church.
Mitt is not on my “A” list at the moment (I’m holding out for Newt—a kind of serial polygamist, I guess) but I can say that if it came down to Mitt vs. anyone even remotely mentioned among the Dems, I’d vote for him in a heartbeat.
I’ve watched it a few times, realized Paxton’s character is basically an idiot, the three women are even dumber, and lost interest completely.
After trying to watch a few 1st season episodes - I'm out. ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz. Women probably watch it more - ton's of relationship issues.
I am not an LDS member but I have been interested in how the show portrays things. My take is that the show points out that plural marriage is harmful to the people are part of it. Not all of these people are bad and their faith - not some kind of sexual thrill - was the reason they signed on for plural marriage. As a result, they seem to be hurt more and more.
The women try to be good mothers and are in some respects. The father tries to be a good father but falls short when he is unable to acknowledge his son in public for example.
The characters who are members of the mainline LDS or of another faith seem happier on the show.
The acting is great and the story lines have been far better than some other HBO shows that limped to the finish recently.
If "that show" got renewed, then HBO better bring back Rome and Deadwood.
Women may watch it because in western society today men are wimps and are afraid of commitment. Here’s the depiction of a man who is a hyper alpha male who can commit to three women!!!! Sub consciously women are drawn to such a man.
On another note, anyone who calls themselves a Christian, Jew or Muslim should know that the prophets of the Old Testament were generally polygamist. Seems God was okay with polygamy.
