Paying taxes is a pleasurable duty [Big BARF!!]
New Scientist (VIA HotAir) ^ | June 14, 2007 | Roxanne Khamsi

Paying taxes feels good, say researchers.

The surprising discovery, based on brain scans, can also predict which people are most likely to donate cash to charity.

Bill Harbaugh at the University of Oregon in Eugene, US, and colleagues gave 19 female university students $100, and told them some of this money would have to go towards taxes.

---- Snip ---

Harbaugh says that people probably like paying taxes more than they admit. He believes the results of his new study help explain the widespread compliance with tax laws. "We like to complain about it, but based on what we do, we are not as opposed to it as we like to say," Harbaugh says.

No word yet on whether the young ladies are in fact brain dead.

Au contaire, things that are a duty are not a pleasure.... else they would not be a "duty".

This is so stupid, they give them free money then tell them they have to give some back. Hand then a scrub brush and a bucket of soapy water and after a 10 hour day of cleaning floors see if they want to give back more of the WAGES that they earned. I bet it would show a big difference....

All this means is that they have no problem paying taxes with other people's money.

Ok, so you give someone $100 for nothing, and tell them they have to pay $20 in taxes, and then register their pleasure at clearing $80 at pleasure in paying taxes?

By that logic, lottery winners “like” paying taxes because they are smiling so much when they get that big check for 60% of their winnings.

Lol...only an ivory tower geek could come up with this. Let’s see, where to start:

1) The girls are in college and didn’t work for the money — of course they didn’t mind giving some back. Wait until they get out and start paying 1/3 of their income (or 40% when you factor in other taxes) to the government. That’s right, Dorothy...the compensation you earn in January, February, March, April and part of May goes to Uncle Sam.

2) Most people comply with tax laws BECAUSE THEY DO NOT WANT TO GO TO JAIL. If you gave them a choice, pay some or keep all, I am just going to go out on a limb, and say most would KEEP ALL.

God, what an idiot!

Well, maybe they did, but they're not reporting that part.

If one feels bound over with the PRESSURE of paying taxes then quite naturally if one is able to pay it off then the STRESS is relieved.

So maybe these 'scientists' are mistaken the STRESS RELIEF as one of PLEASURE??

I’d even have a small smile if I paid 10x more in taxes. In fact the more taxes I paid the bigger my smile would get. My wife would even have a bigger smile spending all that additional income.

and so of paying taxes are so PLEASURABLE then why arent these liberals paying the most instead of finding very creative & deceptive ways of not paying their due share??

I cite for example the clan of Ted Kennedy and when momma Kennedy died having lived in MASS ALL HER LIFE!

They managed to get her estate transferred into Florida and thereby avoiding the huge (60% I believe) estate taxes due on the inhertances worth many MILLIONS.

Meanwhile Ted Kennedy & his liberal ilk keeps stiffing everyone else becasue after all "being wealthy is due to exploitation of the working class" and "most be taken away for the common good".
