Goosebumps. I’m usually not really a friend of opera, but this was just wonderful. I wasn’t expecting anything special or even remotely good upon seeing him... but then his voice blew away the audience.

My favorite part is how the audience laughed at him when he said he was going to sing opera. Then he showed ‘em!

Plus the female judge seemed genuinely moved.

Thanks Kelly.

Believe it or not, I first saw this while slumming on the dark side at DU. They also posted this and we have found something that freepers and the DU crowd can agree on: THIS GUY IS GREAT!

I posted on the other thread on this on FR, but watched it again and cried again. Just so refreshing and touching. It is stuff like this that makes life some much more bright and lovely.

Takes some guts to go out on a stage like that and sing one of the most well-known and powerful tenor arias in the history music.

Great performance, but I wish the video would have continued just a bit longer. The reaction of the audience is what made the entire thing.

This guy will sing before the Queen, count on it.

Short, overweight, cheap suit....according to his own words.

But....anyone remember Britain's Eddie the Eagle, the skier who lost in the Olympics? He soared (kerplunked) into the hearts of the world.....and the loser became a winner!

Neat! There were a few rough spots (the venue was pretty challenging), but the raw talent is there. And the heart is definitely there. What a sweetheart that guy seems like. Not to be trite, but he sang from the heart. That’s what the audience responded to. He believed with all his heart and soul in what he was doing and the conviction won the audience and the judges over.

Wouldn’t it be great if they had an operatic “American Idol” show? That may boost interest in opera like “Dancing with the Stars” has boosted interest in ballroom dancing.

I get so weary of the young people blasting their pipes on “American Idol”. You can tell what that does to your voice when they have oldies like Bette Midler come back to sing and they sound like crap. But a 60 year old opera singer can still be in the prime of their career because they have used their voice properly.

Saw this at the end of Brit Hume’s show, and ended up with tears rolling down my face. I TIVO’d it and replayed it for Mr. Inspectorette - he was blown away. We’ve listened to it three more times since.

OMG! I love that aria. I can sing opera, but I am a baritone and that is definitely above my range, I know, I’ve tried to sing it.
