Central Americans get 'temporary' amnesty

WASHINGTON - As the U.S. Congress mulls the fate of illegal immigrants, the Bush administration is granting temporary protection for 312,000 Central Americans.

Temporary amnesty has been granted for the last decade to illegal immigrants from Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador because of devastating earthquakes and hurricanes there, the Washington Post reported Sunday.

Last month, the Department of Homeland Security said it would extend the amnesty because conditions in those countries have not improved enough for the immigrants to return home.

Collapsed bridges have been rebuilt and flattened crops replanted, but the economies of the three largely impoverished countries rely heavily on the nearly $10 billion sent from relatives working in the United States, the Post reported.

That loss of income combined with the return of several hundred thousand jobless and homeless immigrants would further devastate the countries, their diplomats told the Post.

“Temporary” is in quotes for good reason.

There is so much insanity going on!! Sometimes I wonder if the President is just reading speech after speech just to pacify these people yet he is really making the rest of this country upset with this stuff.

Will all of these people get free healthcare without providing proof of anything? Will they get a drivers license, etc.

I haven’t seen Condi Rice lately, as if she is in hibernation for a season.

“temporary amnesty is tantamount to a “temporary tax”

Sheesh!

Or VP Cheney. I wonder why.

On the bright side, maybe some country could grant Ray Nagin and company “temporary” amnesty.

It’s always amnesty today and enforcement somewhere down the road, way down the road. Enforcement takes effort, dedication and boots on the ground while amnesty just means a bureaucrat rubber stamping your application

There is such an obsession over giving these people a free pass into this country. What are we going to do when all of us have to stand in long lines to get vaccinated for all of the diseases they will bring into our country?

We are headed for disaster. And financial ruin. Will these people get interest free loans to buy a house, too?

I’m waiting for the “stroke of the pen, law of the land”
I think Bush will do it if he can’t get his bill.

This is not over yet. Bush refuses to give up this easily. It's his stubborn character. As I predicted he would try to resurrect it and call it something else. We have to keep our guard up. We need to keep the pressure up. We have no choice but to fight. The oligarchy wants cheap labor and a destruction of the middle class and the millionaire democrats want votes they can count on. A marriage made in HELL.

STAGE TWO is to go after the people who hire illegals. Start giving them fines and arresting them. Just catch ten or 100 of them on the nightly news. The magnet will dry up and most of the 12 million will go home by themselves.

As an addendum, we should anonymously call the IRS, people working "off the books" means taxes ain't being paid. Make anonymous fliers and hang them around the neighborhood, name names. It's time to embarrass these bustards, whether they give to the GOP or Rats, we don't need them.

CALL! CALL! CALL! CALL! AND KEEP CALLING TILL THE LINES FRY!

WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! WRITE! TILL YOU RUN OUT OF INK IN YOUR PEN!

Bombard the Democrats as well, especially the ones that ran on an anti illegal immigration plank and the ones in marginal districts who could be vulnerable. keep pounding on them. This is a bipartisan issue not a Conservative or Liberal issue BUT AN AMERICAN issue.

STOP AMNESTY NOW!! WE CAN DO IT!!

The best way to stop Shamnesty

I think Bush is testing the waters to see what happens with this small amount (compared to 20 million illegals) to see what happens. IF he gets away with it, then he will figure we're not going to do anything and grant "temporary amnesty" to all the illegals. That man is dangerous!

Bush just can’t seem to do enough wrong things fast enough nowadays. He’s gone off his friggin’ rocker.

Do you ever wonder if Bush/Clinton/Bush set things up to fluctuate power between them, they just polarize everyone enough to have the other side win?

Bush 1: No new taxes, hardly campaigned for 2nd term.

Clinton: The Bitch ran things and people hated him, 1994 Repub Rev., Clinton hardly campaigned strong for AlGore.

Bush 2: Rolling big time on domestic issues - totally raptured be legacy building, enough to basically seriously damage the RNC over illegal immigrants.

He was always a liberal. His wars in Afghanistan, Iraq and war on terror masked this for a long time

Well, that may be true. His focus for so long was external issues, not domestic.

Remember Harriet Myers? How ‘bout signing McCain Feingold?

I am not sure this has to do with legacy building. I think Bush is a front for his daddy and whoever. I see Eisenhower was right. Beware of the military industrial complex which is government and big business.

el presidente cannot destroy this country fast enough!!!!

if the 19 saudis were around before 9/11 ~ he would grant them amnesty!!

after all ~ he did grant all their brethren a quick and safe exit after 9/11.

if the lib/dems want to impreach el presidente.....not one peep of protest would come from this direction!!!
