Why would I want to buy a French Sauvignon Blanc for $14.99, when I can get a far superior Marlborough, New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc from $8.99 or $9.99?

Hmmmm....guerrilla vintners imprisoned —> fewer wine producers —> supply goes down —> price goes up. Problem solved.

Maybe Trader Joe could use this to come up with some one-buck Chuck.

It's been done. A fellow member of a singles club has produce the label,

Rick Shaw
Bastard Brother of Two-Buck Chuck

This 99-cent wine has been produced from the cheapest ingredients for the cheap a$$holes of the ****** Club.

Please note the sediment:
For white, do not shake
For blush, shake twice
For red, shake vigorously

I really like Australian red, especially Shiraz. One very affordable table wine is “Yellow Tail.” I cannot recommend any Texas wines. I just don’t know any wines from Texas. My Mom’s family is from South Texas, I will check it out. Of course, there are many good California wines, as well as New York.

That might work quite well if they could only refrain from being snotty to those English speaking tourists.

Yeech! You actually admit to drinking Australian fruit bombs?

Try some Argentinean Malbec or Cabernet sometime. You will not be disappointed. ;-)

Oz's neighbors in New Zealand produce great Sav Blanc. Try Jackson Estate, which I know they carried in the Atlanta area.

Over the past three years, prices on Bordeux and Cotes Du Rhone (the overrated Chateuneuf du Pape being the exception) have dropped considerably. I find more bargains from France than I do from Napa, Sonoma, or the Central Coast.

Last time I was in France, I bought a wine from CORSICA of all places, made from the Nero Amaro grape also popular in Sardegna. It was very good, and I am PO'd that they do not sell it in the US.

Even simple burgundies have become (relatively) good values compared to California equivalents. I was never much of a fan of Chateauneuf du Pape, though I’ve had some very good ones in the past six months or so that a friend of mine is negociant for — they’re pricey, though, and I’m glad I drink them as a guest or at price-to-wholesale.

One winemaker blamed a pernicious arrogance among the French.

Impossible! The French arrogant?

French wine is great, but after they dissed us in 03, I stopped buying French and went to Australian.

Did much the same thing. However, I did Australian for awhile, then California, next Chilean, and now South African.

I was in San Antonio last November and visited Sister Creek Vineyards in Sisterdale. They make a very nice Pinot Noir. And although not a red as you asked, their Muscat Canelli is to die for (if you like that sort of thing).

Unfortunately, as I’m writing this I’m remembering that they only ship within Texas, so getting it is the problem. : )
