MY EVENING WITH TOM TANCREDO at the Nixon Library
team tancredo ^ | 6-17-07 | dfu

Posted on 06/17/2007 9:28:14 AM PDT by doug from upland

If their ghosts were hanging around the Nixon Library last night, the Founding Fathers would have been pleased. They would have given their endorsement. Although he is a second tier candidate, they would have recognized, as all in the room recognized, that Tom Tancredo is the last best home for that place and that idea called America.

He is not huge of stature, but Tancredo's idea tower over those of the other candidates.

He's been in Congress for eight years and is a genuine enemy of Karl Rove. That is Rove's choice. Tancredo did not set out to make enemies. He set out to try to save this nation from the invasion that is killing it.

I learned more about the congressman last night and spent time in line reading his book MORTAL DANGER while waiting in line to have it signed.

He is not a one issue candidate, but the one issue about which he leads the charge is the issue that threatens to end America --- illegal immigration.<>

If elected, Tancredo will appoint strict constructionist judges. Abortion is wrong. The government takes and spends far too much of our money and does things every day that are unconstitutional.

His first act would be to release border agents Ramos and Compean. He would build a 15 foot high fence, a narrow corridor, and another fence that stretched for 2000 miles. Illegal aliens will never get Social Security. Every mayor and city councilman who is responsible for sanctuary cities in violation of federal law will be prosecuted. There will not be North American Union and an American continent of which we are a part; there will be the United States of America.

We are not in a war on terror. We are in a war against radical Islam. If we continue to get 100% of the grief from the United Nations as we fund 27% of it, we will tell the U.N. to take a hike.

Although he will probably remain a second tier candidate, we hope that his ideas will influence the top tier candidates. We are absolutely the last best hope for civilization.

I sat at the table right behind talk show host Kevin James (striped shirt), Bay Buchanan, and Ted Hayes. Bay has been following Peter Paul's case and mentioned it in her book. After speaking with her, I hope I am going to be able to convince her to mention it more.

This is a man who doesn’t want the seat of power for power’s sake. He wants it to save this nation we know as America. In a perfect conservative world, he or Duncan Hunter would be the nominee. I wish we were in that world.

Tancredo/DFU ticket would be great but I reluctantly recognize that it could not win

You're selling yourself short, Doug! I'd donate to a Tancredo/DFU ticket!

I’ve sent some support to Tancredo over the years to his campaign and to TeamAmericaPac before that, I’ve sent some to Hunter recently as well. I think we need to keep the true conservatives in this process!
I’m liking FRed from what I’ve read and think that any combo of the above three would be great for our country!!

“I am a supporter of Fred Thompson, but I recognize that both Tancredo and Hunter are closest to my beliefs. Thompson has the only realistic chance of beating Hillary.”

Thompson will wreck Hillary!!

I’ve signed up for Team Tancredo three times, and have heard nothing back. Why is that?

I don't know. I've signed up, also, and heard nothing back. It's very frustrating, but I expect it's a lack of staff.

I'm not waiting for them to contact me, though. I'm promoting Tancredo locally as much as I can with or without someone from the campaign asking me to.

Doug, good report.

I disagree about Thompson’s exclusive chances. A lot can change in 18 months—even after the premature primaries. Forget that and you leave a lot of chips on the table and walk away before the game’s over.

Beyond that, the article below has some interesting thoughts about FDT. Beyond the concerns the article raises, ANY candidate that the grassroots settles for and demands—to the point that we are demanding our borders be dealt with—can win.

That said, here is the article:

Fred Thompson’s globalist pedigree

Good job, SoA. Thompson’s globalist CFR credentials need to be mentioned every time a FReeper endorses him. Thompson has been very careful with his words on the illegal immigration debate. He said secure the borders first, then we’ll talk about the other stuff. I am certain “the other stuff” with him will be amnesty. Also remember that Fred Thompson voted for McCain’s bill to limit political speech before an election. He has undermined the free speech rights of all of us.

I will, under no circumstance, vote for a CFR member. CFR candidates include: Fred Thompson, Tommy Thompson, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, John McCain, Newt Gingrich, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama.

The only 3 Republican candidates who I trust to maintain America’s sovereignty are Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, and Ron Paul.

“We are grateful to The Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years. It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subject to the bright lights of publicity during those years. But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto determination practiced in past centuries.” (David Rockefeller, director emeritus of the CFR and founder of the Trilateral Commission, in June of 1991).

I like Tancredo, but not for president. He is not qualified to be Commander in Chief and Hunter is.

So he's not big on law and order, then?

Thank you for reporting about the Tancredo event at the Nixon library.

The main problem that I have with Fred Thompson is that he apparently supports giving 12 million illegal aliens a path to citizenship. I don’t agree with Fred saying in 2006 that “[y]ou’re going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship”.

Below is a transcript of a 2007 Thompson appearance on Fox News Sunday.

Link to Fox News Sunday Transcript:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,258222,00.html

WALLACE: You also favor comprehensive immigration reform. I want to...

THOMPSON: No, no, no, no.

WALLACE: Well, let me put up on the screen something that you said last year about illegals, and let’s take a look at it. “You’re going to have to, in some way, work out a deal where they can have some aspirations of citizenship but not make it so easy that it’s unfair to the people waiting in line and abiding by the law.”

Now, you said, “Look, it’s just not realistic that we’re going to round up 12 million people and ship them all out of the country.”

THOMPSON: Well, that’s true, as a general statement. We woke up one day after years of neglect and apparently discovered that we have somewhere between 12 million and 20 million illegal aliens in this country. So it became an impossible situation to deal with.

I mean, there’s really no good solution. So what do you do? You have to start over. Well, I’m concerned about the next 12 million or 20 million. So that’s why enforcement, and enforcement at the border, has to be primary.

I think most people feel disillusioned after 1986 when we had this deal offered to them before, and now we’re insisting that, you know, we solve the security problem first, and then we’ll talk about what to do with regard to other things — certainly no amnesty or nothing blanket like that.

But figure out some way to make some differentiation between the kind of people that we have here.

You know, if you have the right kind of policies, and you’re not encouraging people to come here and encouraging them to stay once they’re here, they’ll go back, many of them, of their own volition, instead of having to, you know, load up moving vans and rounding people up. That’s not going to happen.

“He is not qualified to be Commander in Chief”

I second that. While he has done well on the issue of illegal immigration, he would have a very tough time getting over his past. Specifically the term limits movement/issue that got him into office and the pledge he later tossed away. And yes I have seen and read his explanation. But without even that baggage, it takes more than being a one trick pony to be presidential material.

You mean the one where when he broke the pledge he was reelected by 60 percent? Even though the Dem candidate opposing him had $711,000 to spend on a congressional campaign.

You've posted this to me three different time on three different threads over two days. You're not going to get a different reponse from me and it's starting to get old.

Of course it was 60%. Many people will toss away their core beliefs for self interest and nothing says it better than a politician who gets power and can bring home the $$bacon$$. You are right, I likely will not get a differant response from you. But free speech is wonderful isn’t it. You can keep holding up the guy as a hero and I can keep showing that he is a phony. By the way, how is “Tancredo ‘08” doing in the polls? Think he will ever get higher than single digit status?

You don't know what you're talking about. Tancredo voted for 17 of 19 of the anti-pork amendments.

Representative Tom Tancredo, R- Littleton, falls short of a perfect score by only two votes. One of those votes should not be held against Congressman Tancredo, as he was excused from the vote. Tancredo continues to be among the most fiscally conservative members of the U.S. House.

You're just bashing for the sake of bashing. You didn't get anywhere with the "he broke his pledge" whine, so now you're going for the "what are his poll numbers" song and dance.

Stop following me around and posting the same garbage.
