Kill (Their) Bill
Human Events ^ | 06/18/2007 | Jed Babbin

Posted on 06/18/2007 7:26:50 AM PDT by conservative4

It’s entirely fair to ask why this administration -- or the next -- should expect us to believe it will live up to the promises of border security and enforcement that are being made and will be made in the 2008 campaign. We don’t believe those promises for two reasons. One: if President Bush were sincere about border security, he would have done a lot since 2000, and he hasn’t. And he could do a lot right now, without demanding the Bush-McKennedy bill in trade. Two: if any candidate wants us to believe he is sincere about border security -- which Sen. McCain is sincere about precluding -- they need to say, clearly, that the border security must be accomplished first and that a “comprehensive” bill is precisely the wrong approach. That McCain’s presidential campaign is sinking is no coincidence.

I just got off the phone with Kay Bailey Hutchinson's Houston office and talked with the phone-monkey.

I told him that it sounded like KBH was getting onboard with this Amnesty Bill with her proposed amendment last week.

He told me she would not support the bill as it is now.

...for whatever that says and is worth.

Once again....we don’t need any Bill. Enforce the laws on the books. If they can’t do that, they can’t enforce any new laws and probably don’t want to. They are making it so complicated that no one could follow it.

The sad fact is that our government has, since the 1986 amnesty, proved itself untrustworthy on border security and enforcement.

When it comes to our own "representatives", "trust but verify" doesn't work on this issue. We need to verify each individuals words and deeds before we can trust them.

I hate to sound cynical, but "now" it doesn't have her amendment in it. Add her amendment, and presto! perhaps she'll vote for it.

Tsk, tsk. I have great hopes that we can kill this thing, it will be constant work, but I really, really, don't think they can go against 80% of the population in the Internet/cell phone era.

Wiggle room, I see. Double speak. We don’t need any new admendments to a bill that should die right now. Enforce the laws we got.

Isn’t it illegal for our Congress to have secret meetings? Maybe we should be looking at it from that angle. How can you pass a new bill that was done in secret?

Just called Sen Corker’s Chattanooga office (423)756-2757 again....

I was told Sen Corker is waiting until the AMNESTY Bill is something he could vote for...Tbhat the Bill is many pages long and the Sen has to read them all to know what is involved...

I told the lady what it was about...

She said you make it sound simple...There’s hundreds of pages...

I said it is simple..It’s AMNESTY for 25,000,000 illegal aliens...

Spoke to a guy at Corker’s office. For Alexander, they send you to the comments line.

Told the guy at Corker’s office I was part of the vast majority of Americans who wanted to protect our national security since 9-11 and would hope the Senator would vote no on cloture.

You really don’t need to declare the amnesty. Just tell them no on Z-visas and to enforce existing law and secure the border.

Or just saw you want the current law upheld and revisit the illegal alien question later.

Doing it calmly and without noting amnesty may have a better chance of being relayed. They are keeping a scorecard no doubt.

If Bush is serious on the “war on terror” then why are ALL our borders WIDE OPEN and catering to ILLEGALS from ANY country? Bush has had TWO TERMS to show he is serious. He’s done NOTHING about our border security or WHO comes here ILLEGALLY.
