Station finds Imus is more easily fired than replaced
AP ^ | June 16, 2007 | Larry McShane

NEW YORK -- When it comes to finding a permanent replacement for Don Imus, only one thing appears certain: David Lee Roth is not a candidate.

Two months after Imus' ignominious firing from his syndicated radio show at WFAN-AM, a variety of fill-ins have rolled through the revolving door at the station: tennis great John McEnroe, NBC White House correspondent David Gregory, Chicago morning man Mike North.

Comedian Dennis Miller and radio host Mancow Muller were broached as possible successors, while others improbably suggested that CBS Radio bring Imus back. But the station's parent company is offering no details about its hunt for a new morning man in the nation's biggest radio market, offering only a blanket no comment.

Others have offered more pointed takes on the company's pursuit of a suitable successor.

"Their search has been a disaster," wrote Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News, who advocated Imus redux in the fall. "A mish-mosh of miscast talents has paraded into the FAN ... failing to produce compelling morning radio."......"

Imus was a rare breed, a likable lib who actually had critical thinking skills.

that’s why they fried him - a likeable lib with critical thinking skills is not one of them and needs to be blown away

"David Lee Roth is not a candidate." I don't get this retread stuff. He suck here in DFW on 105.3 and got the boot pretty quick. That's taking into consideration that 105.3 is filled with former Morning Rock DJs, so their audience are all Rock n' Roll fans.

I like Dennis Miller, but only as a bit player on programs. I like is bit on FNC's 1/2 Hour News. That show hilarious!

Smerconish was un-watchable.

“Morning Joe” Scarborough is awful.

"HA HA HA!"

Couldn't have said it better myself.
CBS will regret the day they caved in to the race pimps
It is going to cost them dearly, might even backrupt the scum organization. Imus has a good suit and will probably win. The race Pimps (Sharpton et al.) will demand $$ from CBS and probably get it.

I saw a report that young people have just about given up on radio for a career, just about every little station has turned into a repeater for nationally syndicated programming.

I was in radio back in the 80’s (prior to Rush and Hannity etc.) and you could see then a station could run automation, pay board ops the minimum wage, and still sell advertising time.

The “12 in a row with no talk” philosophy didn’t help either. The industry was developing a whole generation of DJs who could only read liner cards. Of course, if the listeners just want the music then it makes sense to do it that way, but it did make the prospects of being a radio announcer a lot less appealing.

Say what you want about them, but Stern, Imus and that crowd all developed their skills because (1) they had talent; (2) they were worked very hard, and (3) most importantly, they had an opportunity to do it.

It’s clear management had no plan B. It’s also clear they were coasting on an old format and another man’s talent. Now that they have to DO something, they are revealed to be business eunichs. Pity they’re already pocketed their fortunes.

Then there was that three-day wonder, “progressive radio talk show host” Stephanie Miller, who trashed GWB about every third sentence.

Even so, she was actually funny some of the time; Scarborough is dullsville in comparison.

The I-Man laughs even yet.

Roger Ailes, do the right thing.

I have no cable, but once in a blue moon, I do catch the Fox & Friends on my XM 121. Always find it unlistenable. Gaggle of honking geese comes to mind from the audio.

A great part of Imus' talent was keeping all the players on his show in order so you could actually hear what was being said.

He's one of a kind and I miss him. As far as WFAN's problems - cry me a river, you spineless weasels!

Stefhanie Miller. What a loser she is. Did you catch that she is Barry Goldwarter’s running mate’s daughter - - William Miller?

Wouldn’t the NBC folks just love to have her back?

I still think they should give that young fellow, Willie Geist, a shot. Maybe his dad would agree to leave CBS and they could have the Bill and Willie Show?

Ignoring politics for a moment, Jon Stewart wouldn’t be bad. He has the wit and demeanor that might make it work.
