Vatican issues "10 Commandments" for good motorists

Thou shall not drive under the influence of alcohol. Thou shall respect speed limits. Thou shall not consider a car an object of personal glorification or use it as a place of sin.

The Vatican took a break from strictly theological matters on Tuesday to issue its own rules of the road, a compendium of do's and don'ts on the moral aspects of driving and motoring.

A 36-page document called "Guidelines for the Pastoral Care of the Road" contains 10 Commandments covering everything from road rage, respecting pedestrians, keeping a car in good shape and avoiding rude gestures while behind the wheel.

Betcha they just copied the study guide for the drivers' license test. "How many points on your license do you get if you pass a stopped school bus?"

Thou shalt not take thy Lord’s name in vain...
unless you are driving in downtown traffic during rush hour.

A car shouldn't be a personal vanity (no Ferraris!) but apparently Beemer SUVs are A-OK with the Holy See...

From the Popemobile, you could make obscene gestures to drivers that could be seen for miles.

I wonder if he has a decal of little boy Calvin pissing on a Mercedes symbol in the back window. I can't tell.

XI. Thou shalt not mistake timid driving for defensive driving.

“decal of little boy Calvin”
I don’t think any priest should be allowed to have any kind of “little boy” sticker on their car!

LOL! You have a point there.

Maybe he could have one of those decals that says “I’d rather push a BMW than drive a Mercedes”.

IIa. Stay thou off of my bumper when I’m in the slow lane where I should be; I know thou art in a hurry to pass me but back off until thou can (safely) move left.

:-)

Question for the Vatican: Wouldn’t just asking folks to keep the Golden Rule in mind while driving be simpler? :)

Most people don’t know what the Golden Rule is so it has to be broken down and written in crayon as you can tell from the Catholic bashing going on here as usual.
