Among other things, John Zeigler is the one who first broke the John Kerry "stuck in Iraq" story.

From johnziegler.com:

How the John Kerry/Iraq Story Really Broke

The way that the story of John Kerry’s comments about education and getting “stuck in Iraq” became blockbuster news is rather humorous and tells us a lot about the nature of our modern news media...

-- snip --

Here is how it really all went down...

-- snip --

...I decided to take a chance and lead my program with the news of the Kerry gaffe that only one local TV station who was at the Angelides event had even bothered to play (and again that was totally without fanfare or context). Over the next three hours I played the clip at least 10 times...

-- snip --

...After some initial frustration in our attempt to post the audio on the KFI website...the audio soon began spreading like a wildfire across the internet. First, it was posted on Michelemalkin.com and Hotair.com where it got national exposure. Then, through the efforts of us at KFI and many others who bombarded the Drudge Report with links to the audio on our website, within about four hours of being aired on our show the story went absolutely nuclear when around midnight Pacific Time when it was prominently placed on the preeminent news website in the world.

Getting on Drudge when it did was critical not just because of the massive media play that any link there automatically receives, but because it was vitally important that the story get legs before sunrise on the East coast. Since Kerry had made the statement on Monday evening, had it not made Drudge until after noon on Tuesday it very well may never have caught fire...

From www.amazon.com:
READ THIS BOOK!!! America's future may depend on it!, January 7, 2006

By  Mark Ahrens (Westminster, Ca USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)

I've lived in Southern California my whole life and oddly enough, the first time I heard John Ziegler wasn't on the radio, but rather over my home telephone when he called to request that my mom be a guest on his program. I listened that night on KFI-640 as he grilled my mother, Judy Ahrens, over her vote to not allow cross-dressing teachers or students in public schools because he thought it broke the law.

My mom disliked him for his aggressive interview style and refused to listen for months, but I was immediately hooked (and my mom is now). I decided to order the book (through his website www.johnziegler.com) and finished it in one week.

Ziegler is the most honest and quick-witted radio broadcaster I've heard to date. He makes a strong and depressing argument for why our nation's dialogue is broken, taking equal shots at liberals (Clinton) and conservatives (Hannity).

He draws examples from speech double-standards he has witnessed in the world of sports (golf & football), TV commentary shows (Larry King), music (Dixie Chicks), entertainers (Whoopi Goldberg), and political commercials (Swift Boat Vets).

He often jokes on his radio show that "we broadcast every day as if it could be our last, because it often has been." I hope this book is not his last because his passion and knowledge of the issue will be a needed voice if those of us who want to protect free speech ever hope to survive.

Don’t forget Leah. I love her voice.

By the way, how is her rescued horse Lucky doing? Hope he’s ok, I haven’t listened in a while.

hello! I’m new here and wasn’t sure where to put this but it’s something I worked on in response to the “Day in the Life of Joe Conservative” thing circulating:

Joe gets up at 6 a.m. and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. His coffee is a tasteful import obtained at reasonable cost, thanks to free trade agreements. With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. The medication for his rare condition exists because some greedy pharmaceutical corporation financed it’s creation.

All but $10 of his medications are paid for by his employer’s medical plan because his company has remained flush in profit, thanks to capable stewardship of the fat cat CEO — Joe’s boss.

He prepares his morning breakfast: bacon and eggs. Joe’s bacon and eggs are shipped fresh daily to his metropolitan city, straight from the hillbilly rural food-producing region, smugly referred to by Joe’s sophisticated liberal friends as “flyover country”.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is plastic, an indispensable substance developed by the evil DuPont Corporation after the First World War.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean due to the oversight of the EPA, which was established by the infamous President Richard Nixon.

He walks on the taxpayer-subsidized sidewalk to the subway station for his ride to work. The subway is now safe thanks to the fascist mayor who got tough on crime. Patrolled by race-profiling cops, the formerly dangerous tunnels are now devoid of rapists, pickpockets and grafitti taggers. It give him considerable peace of mind because some mean-spirited conservative wanted enforcement of the laws, which gives everyone the opportunity to be safe.

Joe begins his work day. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because his greedy corporation hasn’t outsourced his job. Joe’s employer remains in the USA despite the availability cheaper labor overseas.

If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he’ll likely recover and find a new job, thanks to stupid entrepreneurs who keep our economy strong and help make unemployment in the US among the lowest in the world.

It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe’s deposit is placed into an interest-bearing checking account managed by capitalist pigs who also give Joe a line of credit to use at his discretion. His diversified portfolio, developed with the assistance of a ruthless investment adviser, includes blue-chip stock, high yield money markets, long term bonds and tax-deferred savings.

Joe was able to obtain a low-interest mortgage because some conservatives decided that Joe and the public would be better served by a strong economy and competitive housing market. Joe also forgets that in addition to his greedy employer’s tuition reimbursement plan, he was accepted on merit into a state university before the advent of affirmative action.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his home. He gets in his car for the drive. His car contains cutting-edge technology such as ABS and traction control thanks to the research and development by greedy corporations. If Joe becomes lost, he can plot his way back on GPS, a technology developed by the evil Military-Industrial Complex.

He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house which has increased it’s property value thanks to evil developers building desirable residences and retail businesses in the area.

The area faced blight and decline before the profit-minded developers came along.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father is a self-made man, who built his own business and made wise investments so he could take care of himself and his family, setting an example for his son Joe to follow.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and when he arrives turns on a liberal T.V. show. The clever liberal host tells Joe how conservatives are bad and liberals are good. He doesn’t mention that the beloved liberals have fought against every aspect of law enforcement, the military, capitalism and free markets which benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day. Joe agrees: “We don’t need those warmongering neo-con capitalists ruining our lives! After all, I’m entitled to criticize the government and Big Business. Dissent is patriotic!”

I enjoyed Zig’s talk this morning and was glad to get one of his books. Just wondering - how many other Freepers were fortunate enough to have been there?
