I can’t wait to see how he does on a real debate. I wonder if he will show up.

He should consider not “showing up” to the silly media circuses.

I’d rather see him campaign until near the end of the year, then before the primaries, invite his top competitors (probably just Mitt) to join him in a TV studio, to discuss the issues. Permit the news networks and C-Span to pick up the feed, and post it on You Tube.

If there is another contender, then Fred should do a separate event with him.

If any of the other candidates want to debate each other, they should do the same.

If anyone wants to decline an invitation, so be it.

Any Republican with the guts to pass on the Wolf Blitzer dog-and-pony shows rises a notch in my book. It takes leadership to depart from the lemming mentality. It takes fire in the belly.

One of the key strategies to becoming President must be acting Presidential. Presidents don’t show up to media circus dog and pony shows with 12 other people tap-dancing on stage. He should wait until the field has been narrowed to himself and maybe one or two other candidates and then do a real debate where answers can be longer than an eye blink.

I’m with you. I keep remembering (you may be too young to remember this!) the debates between John Kenneth Galbraith and William F. Buckley when I was young. I was forced to watch many of them by my family- hated it then- am grateful for it now. If I grew up in this era I’d assume that a debate was a series of soundbites, not an exchange of ideas.

Absolutely brilliant! I love that idea.

When the debates start being debates, I’ll start watching again.

In the meantime, they’re just simultaneous monologues and a conglomeration of talking points. Nothing new either.

Boring.
