What a horrible accident. I pray that Deputy Freidenberg was unconscious when the car was engulfed in flames...I can’t imagine a worse way to die.

I would like to say something really nasty (but true and deserved) about Bush, who through his dereliction of duty contributed to this tragedy, but I’m simply too numb from this kind of thing any more. I never believed I could loathe a Republican POTUS as much as I do now.

Thanks, he was my son-in-law’s trainee when he came over the the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Like you, I hope he was killed suddenly. The rescuers had to back off because ammo was going off in the fire. I wonder what will happen to the illegal alien driving the other car.

I perused the online version of the Salem Statesman-Journal. Not one word about the driver and passengers of the car that stuck the officer. No names, no immigration status, big fat nothing. This is another attempted cover-up. Oregonians are fed up with the damage, human and otherwise, being caused by these illegal invaders.

RK: I agree. However, if you note from the report, the author is very, very careful not to mention the sex of the cop, obviously for politically correct reasons, because “we’re all the same.”

But “Kelly” is the first name. Kelly is traditionally a female name in the U.S.

The driver was seriously injured, the front passenger was killed and the one in the back seat was gone when additional officers arrived. he was found at a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

I think most Oregonians knew he was a male - we've been watching this sad, and infuriating, story on our local news. My point was that the fact that he was killed by an illegal is being covered up. Nowhere in newspaper or TV reports do they state that the driver of the vehicle that struck him was an illegal.

Not to mention, initial reports say that alcohol was not involved. That stretches credulity.

For some reason, perhaps because of the fact that the driver, who attempted to pass a vehicle yielding to the lights and siren of the oncoming patrol car is an ILLEGAL ALIEN, this tragedy did not make the national news.

As you no doubt know, our legislature went Democrat in November, and of course, Gov. Kulongoski is a liberal Democrat. (Hard to imagine that, given his background growing up in a Catholic orphanage, and service in the USMC.) Needless to say, our politicos are in the tank for illegal immigrants. You probably also saw that Portland mayor Tom Potter was outraged at the immigration raid at Fresh Del Monte last week. :-(

The Salem Statesman-Journal has been severely criticized for publishing an interview with the witness who attempted to rescue him from the burning vehicle. The account was graphic and disturbing. God bless this officer and his family, and the man who attempted to save him.

There was a 400 car funeral procession to the cemetery yesterday in Salem. They put a map in the newspaper for us!

His brother attends my church. God bless Kelly!
