That is simply astonishingly low. Means that basically both Democrats and Republicans think that congress is incompetent, and I would have to agree with that assessment. They are unable to accomplish anything meaningful on any issue.

2008 is shaping up to be a throw the bums out election. Hillary of course is currently part of this loathed congress which will kind of make it hard for her to play the role of the candidate of “change”.

Could their approval rating go into negative numbers?

14% huh? Sounds like the rest of America is finally catching up with me. :-)

There are several species of plague-carrying vermin that are now more popular than Congress.

It does say something about America that the Senators certainly do not give a damn about our opinions and that we as Americans will do absolutely nothing about it except to sit on our hands, wait and (maybe) elect a new boss - same as the old boss.

Recall the trash - boot the bums out - or accept the fact that you are indeed insignificant. - and that is the true lesson of this poll.

The problem is that the Republicans have no leadership in the House to offer in contrast to Pelosi so there is no way to take advantage of this.

I’m very surprised they got that high a positive rating but hey a lot of folks are way stupid.
Just look at all the fools who support Mrs. Clinton, John Edwards, and all those morons still with Kerry Edwards stickers on their vehicles.

I wonder if 14 percent of those polled were congressmen. The poll seems skewed pro congress.

Completely to the side - who wants to wager that now on all the punidt shows on the alphabet soup stations we will now see “experts” saying that the people of the country must be ignorant morons for not supporting Congress completely?

This is testament to the fact that neither Republicans nor Democrats have much faith in this Congress. This Congress is a disappointment to most folks.

This is quite an important article, because it challenges our assumptions about the stability of our political system.

The entity referred to as "Congress" is the creature of the sovereign of the United States, it is created by that sovereign, and is changeable at will by the sovereign. So any dysfunction in that body, any failures, especially any "unpopularity" (which is actually impossible in a body which is popularly chosen) must go back to the sovereign.

The sovereign which created "Congress" is, of course, We the People of the United States.

Now, clearly, the Members of Congress, fearing elections more than anything else, have pretty effectively seized control of the process. Dividing themselves into two teams, which they call "parties", but which the Founders correctly called "factions", they cultivate appeals to the Left in leftish districts and to the right in right-leaning districts, while they in fact, drawn from the same class, graduating from the same schools, marrying the same women, and sharing the same social and cultural presuppositions, have converted themselves into a permanent ruling aristocracy.

The fault is not theirs - they are merely doing what the Founders expected they would do.

It is the People of the United States who are failing to perform as expected, and unless they exercise their latent power to disband this gang of criminals and replace them with actual Representatives, they will lose the Liberty for which their ancestors died.

The previous low point for Congress was 18% at several points in the period of time 1991 to 1994.

I am sure you won't hear anyone in the MSM say: "Congressional approval has not been this low since the last time Democrats controlled congress."

Wait till they pass “Immigration Reform”. It will be down to the single digits. But, hey, its okay ‘cause business will keep shoveling the contributions. The figure with over a year to go till the election and enought $$ in the bank they can survive anything. We need to throw all the bums out—we need to drain the swamp. This heresy must not stand!
