Presidential hopeful Barack Obama belongs to the United Church of Christ, one of the country's most racially diverse and liberal Protestant denominations -- the first to ordain an openly gay minister and to call for equal marriage rights for all people, regardless of gender.
The UCC prides itself as being "out front" on social justice issues, battling civil rights, women's rights and gay rights ahead of the mainstream. One Sunday hymnal equally celebrates male and female images of God.

“most racially diverse”. Does this mean they have Scottish and Mongolian members? That would show some diversity.
Or do they mean a well rounded mix of hispanic, black, and white members? How about Asians, the invisible minority in American politics?
Our church left the UCC. Many are following.
Christ had quite a bit to say about such places.
"This people honors me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me. The worship they offer me is worthless; the doctrines they teach are only human regulations." (Matt.15:8-9).
""It is not those who say to me 'Lord, Lord', who will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven." (Mt.7:21).
"There is a way that some think right, but it leads in the end to death." (Prov.16:25).
"The priests teach whatever they please and my people love it! But when the end comes, then what will you do?" (Jer.5:31).

Just read this church’s “Mission Statement” to see what you need to know.....
If it is anything like the Unity or the Unitarian churches, Jesus Christ is not accepted as the Divine Son of God, therefore, not Christian at all.
Maybe Obama should join Tom Cruise’s “scientology church”, it will do him about as much good. There are some real strange idiots in this country....
Obama’s pastor, Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr, has gone many times on the record claiming that 911 was payback for White racism! To date, Obama hasn’t refuted his pastor’s comments.
In his “autobiography,” Obama credits this terrorist sympathiser as having been responsible for his own conversion from Islam to “Christianity.”
Good list. You could have added the 2 Timothy “itching ears” verse which I’m just too lazy to look up and paste right now. I believe it’s chapter 3.
UCC...the first church to ordain homosexuals (I think it was 1967)...doing that when it wasn’t even a blip on the cultural radar screen.
