Doubts continue to swirl over Fred Thompson's faith ... Thompson shot back that he's not only a Christian, but a member of the fundamentalist Churches of Christ.
...Professor Mark Elrod of Harding University said he doubts Thompson is "filling out an attendance card at a Church of Christ on Sundays." ...he hasn't been able to find any information regarding the former senator's actual membership... "In our tradition," Elrod said, "that's called 'being out of fellowship' or a 'lapsed member.'"
... WND has learned Thompson was baptized into Christ in the early 1950s at the First Street Church of Christ in Lawrenceburg, Tenn.
His mother, Ruth Thompson, regularly attends the Brentwood Church of Christ near Nashville... Fred Thompson is known to worship there when he visits his mother.
In 1997, Thompson spoke at a fund-raising event at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn. – another college affiliated with the Churches of Christ – where he was presented with a Bible. He and his parents have set up academic scholarships in their names there.

Thompson and his first wife, Sara Lindsey, divorced in 1985. The Church of Christ frowns on divorce, and believes only "fornication," or sexual infidelity, can be grounds for divorce and remarriage.
In 2002, Thompson and second wife, Jeri Kehn, were married in the liberal United Church of Christ, not the ultra-conservative Churches of Christ to which Thompson claims to belong.

Dr. Dobson was "simply attempting to highlight to the best of his knowledge" that Thompson had not clearly stated his religious beliefs.
Yet these 2 gentlemen felt free w/out any evidence to make public statements about another man'e religious life. Shame on both of them.
His mentality is like that of many blacks (Jessie and Al come to mind) who over the years have turned away from main stream Christianity.
Turning instead to fringe religions that tell them what they want to hear about all those bad people out in the world.
Islam comes readily to mind.
I do not have doubts that a black, Hispanic or even a Mormon could be president of this country.
However, I do not have doubts about Osama Obamas bigoted and racist background and the many shady people he seems to have hanging around him.
There is so much hate white America language in Osama Obama’s church that no rational thinking person using logic could think otherwise that much of that hate speech has rubbed off on this candidate.
I rather doubt that Fred Thompson would be associated with a church that openly supported racists views. Just my lowly opinion of a red state wannabe.

Thousands of varieties with their own rules -- or without rules -- all (well, most) claiming to be Scripturally sound. That's how they read it, who's to say differently?
If you miss due to illness or if you are out of town (although I do know some who find a church to attend when they are out of town) then that is no big deal. Just totally not going is another thing.
So basically it is a profession of what you (and I) believe but it is not a prayer of recited words such as “Our Father who art in Heaven...”
Sorry. I did not start this I was responding to the first anti-mormon post and it was not to you. I like Tancredo and Hunter. I am sticking with them until it becomes obvious that they can’t make it. As far as exposition of doctrine about Mormons you can go to anti-mormon or mormon sites. Google “mormon apologetics” and there are lots of options like FAIR.
I do not think Christian is defined by church attendance.
Look at Clinton carrying his bible, did that make him a Christian ?

Not to be picky, but that isn't the "Catholic" version. Here is the Catholic Version:

But I don’t think Hillary is Jewish enough for me. And because God places people above his own personal power, I’d have to say that’s one value Hillary doesn’t seem to share.

I enjoy going and being around other Christian people and hearing God’s word. It’s refreshing and gets me pumped for the week ahead. Recharges my battery if you will.
Since you don't find the concept of annulment in the Bible, it is not a term you normally hear used by members of the church of Christ. Divorce is a sin, and under the new covenant, Christ said it is only permitted in God's eyes in the event of adultry. The most conservative view is that if a person divorces for other than adultry, they should remain single. If they remarry other than their first spouse, they cause their subsequent spouse to commit adultry because that is what the Bible says.
Since each congregation of the church of Christ is autonomous, some are more tolerant of divorce and remarriage for reasons other than adultry, and some define adultry in a broad sense such as when a spouse is no longer faithful based on either thoughts or deeds.
