After weeks of protests, petitions, security preparations and last-minute attempts to thwart it, the Jerusalem gay pride parade kicked off Thursday at 5 pm.
Some 2,000 people took part in the event, which was secured by 7,000 policemen.
Dozens of rainbow flags and balloons were flown at the junction of Moshe Hess and King David streets, the parade's point of departure. The marchers have also carried signs saying, "Where gays are being silenced, straights will be silenced too."
The participants were handed pamphlets stating that "the purpose of the event is to protest against homophobia and incitement, and promote the community's rights."
The marchers stressed that the fact the parade was taking place despite the massive campaign against it, was a victory for the gay and lesbian community.
In recent days, rabbis have called on young haredim not to protest violently against the parade, but to recite prayers instead. Thousands of haredim took part if a mass service in Yafo Street at the beginning of the parade, during which they recited psalms and carried signs against the gay community and the High Court.
Earlier Thursday, police forces detained a resident of the Orthodox Mea Shearim neighborhood in Jerusalem for carrying a makeshift bomb on Jaffa Street.
The suspect said he planned to deter people from taking part in the gay pride parade. The bomb included a pipe and matches. Police said it could have caused bodily harm if detonated.

Someone needs to tell the world that the world only exists because of its Creator, that right and wrong are based exclusively on His decrees, and that no "right" exists that He did not bestow (and no "right" exists to violate His commandments).
The notion of self-existent "rights" and a self-existent objective morality is every bit as terrifying as the notion of a self-existent universe (to which they are probably connected). And what is even more terrifying is that these "enlightenment" concepts are held to be "self-evident" (in that paragon of "enlightenment," Thomas Jefferson's words).
Strange how people who boast of critical, independent thought are so dependent on the "self-evidence" of their beliefs!

They'd do better to advise them NOT to vote for Shas, the "religious" political party that has enabled Armillus Olmert to come to power and forcibly remove and persecute peaceful settlers - all for some money for their schools. What good is educating kids if you're going to betray their families and their heritage?
As for the queers, I'd like to know what reason there is to march in Jerusalem. Clearly, since about 80% of the Jewish population is quite religious, it is to be in-your-face offensive to them. Tell me, queers, how do you like it when people offend you on purpose? Why couldn't you go somewhere else, and just leave the people of Jerusalem alone to live their lives as they see fit? Well, I know the answer: you're scum - and you'll ultimately get your just reward.

The philosopher Alisdair McIntyre was formerly a leftist, possibly a Communist, who converted to Catholicism while on the faculty at Notre Dame. I wouldn’t let that stop you from looking at his books, especially “After Virtue” and “Whose Justice? Which Rationality”?
This is a fine philosophical discussion, in the Aristotelian tradition, of the incompatibility between modernists & postmodernists and the traditional ideas of virtue and rationality. Most modern and postmodern philosophy isn’t worth the paper it’s written on, but McIntyre is one of the few exceptions.
This gay parade is a disgrace to Israel. I wonder whether it would happen with a more “conservative” Israeli government in power.

I'm not into philosophy as the basis of morality (being a Theonomic positivist and all), but I suppose it has its uses.
The Left's current project is to "redistribute" pride. They think poor Southern whites who live in old rusty trailers are simply stuffed to the gills with pride in their ancestry, so they tear down their pride and try to transfer it to Blacks by encouraging them to believe "Ve are ze aryans who infented zivilization!!!" (Is there any other way to understand "Afrocentrism?")
Similarly, since "sexual orientation" is now a form of ethnicity, they encourage (basically) rightwing nationalism by homosexuals because (so the Left thinks) heterosexuals do nothing but rejoice in their own sexual orientation.
It's hard to fathom how people so incredibly stupid have run just about the entire world for well over forty years. It can only be because they are masters at the art of manipulating other people.
It also shows that the bible's predictions that sin and depravity will get worse and worse as the time of judgment nears is spot on.
