The lake was situated in the Magallanes region in Patagonia and was fed by water, mostly from melting glaciers.
It had a surface area of between 4 and 5 hectares (10-12 acres) -- about the size of 10 soccer pitches.

and B) the reason I posted this was it was the lead story on Yahoo homepage, and they said it was 10 SOCCER fields in size! Remember football fields??? ahahahahahahahah
It's that or UFOs.
Perhaps the glaciers stopped melting? It is after all, winter in the southern hemisphere.
you noticed this too! How funny. I was driving to work this morning, and I was listening to my jazz radio station, and the dj said, “coming up next, we have mas musica en la manana”, and my jaw dropped! So 5 minutes later, I get to work and booted up my computer, and I see we’re going to start measuring things compared to soccer fields! What’s next? Sombreros?
The ground got thirsty.
Great. Now I have to learn how to convert football fields into soccer fields.
Probably Karst topograpy or sinkholes as we call it around here. The underlying rock is limestone and soluable over time. There are undergrouind streams below and a plug in the bottom of the lake gives way and the lake disapears into the underground stream. Happens all the time around Columbia Illinois, North county St Louis.
Its Bushes fault.
rosie + soda straw = ...

It happened in Florida some years back - within a few miles of University of Florida. A sink hole opened up and the lake went down it...
When you get lemons, make lemonade. The good news: They can build 10 soccer fields.
seriously, I guess I should be thankful the article was in english. Matter of time...
I for one welcome our new spanish-speaking overlords

What’s a soccer field?
Having lived a stones throw from Lake Michigan, I am somehow unimpressed.
