Elizabeth Edwards paused Friday in Austin to raise money for her husbands presidential campaign, telling a crowd her ideal Republican nominee would be Rudy Giuliani. Her assumption: hubby and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina might enjoy an advantage in Texas and other southern states over the former mayor of New York.
According to guests at the closed-to-the-press event, Edwards also touted polls suggesting that Edwards would trounce either Arizona Sen. John McCain or Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.
In an interview before the fundraiser in the home of Liz and Kirk Watson, Edwards said: Democrats can win in Texas. You just have to have the right candidates to do it.
Asked to assess the appeal of U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton to female voters, Edwards said women have an obligation to support other women not just women at the top, but women across the board. But, she stressed, her husband is the only candidate to offer plans for universal health care and to combat povertyissues that weigh on women.
She disputed a suggestion that running for president must be a grind. Edwards, who has cancer, said shes actually energized by folks who come to the events she attends.
I guess we could sit home, she said. But I just think it would be selfish to do that when I believe our country needs her husband.
Sad. John Edwards couldn’t win re-election as Senator in his home state, but he’s going to sweep the South? I’m not a southerner, but I know that being a southerner is more than geography. You’re not a Southerner, if you’re a defeat-mongering, nutroots-@ss-kissing, Silky Pony.
Disrupter.
Elizabeth Edwards dream:
the open line at the buffett table!!!
edwards & wife are in denial and are having wet dreams thinking they have any shot at POTUS ahead of the piaps or even b. hussein!!!!!
I’m so glad to hear your wife is well on the road to recovery. Congratulations on doing your part to keep a loving and supportive family.
Thank you. To this day and forever I can only say that it was God above that restored her. I was pretty much along the ride. : )
Very interesting . Does this mean that Sharpton, Hillary Clinton Mike Gravel, Bill Richardson, Dennis Kucinich, John Edwards, Joseph Biden, Wesley Clark, et. al. have paid/will pay thmselves $800,000 to run for President? Is it declared as a salary? How can this be legal?
Makes you want to declare to run for president, doesn’t it? To pick up the second year of salary, though, candidates must file no later than January 10th of an election year.
