Atlanta officials declare Constitution-free zone

The city of Atlanta has created a Constitution-free zone on public property for this weekend's 2007 Atlanta Pride festival, according to pastors and lawyers who have been trying to secure an assurance that Christians' free-speech rights will be protected.

"The Constitution does not apply in Piedmont Park this weekend," attorney Joel Thornton, of the International Human Rights Group told WND.

"The city of Atlanta, whose attorneys I have been negotiating with for the past six months, has just sent me a letter saying that they 'will not be able to offer you or your client[s] any assistance in this matter,'" he said.

The theme of the Piedmont Park event for Atlanta's "gay" community may be: "Our Rights, Your Rights, Human Rights," but the pastors have no doubts their Christian message will be silenced by the authority of the city's police force.

An estimated 300,000 people from all areas of the country attend the festival, which is the culmination of Atlanta's "Gay" Pride month, an event welcoming "diversity," "tolerance" and "rights."

But, said Thornton, "when officers of the Atlanta Police Department threaten to arrest Christians for sharing their faith at the event there will be nothing stopping them from keeping the Gospel message from being heard in this community."

Thornton's conclusion is supported by the experiences of a number of pastors who at the 2006 event were restricted for delivering "incongruent" messages at the homosexual event. That scene was captured on videotape:

Dick Christensen said he and his small group of urban missionaries hadn't even unfurled their banners on the grassy knoll outside the festival gate a year ago before they were threatened with arrest.

Walk away from Atlanta, and don’t look back.

Nothing like taking pride in the spread of disease and the drug culture. I’ve seen inside these homosexual clubs, having had gay roommates several years ago. I’ve probably been into a gay establishment over 100 times.

And every time, it’s the same: an emphasis on sex and substance abuse. The statistics about the average gay male having had over 100 sexual partners (well, really, hundreds): absolutely true.

The whole community is geared that way. Monogamy is practically non-existent. And fidelity with monogamy is unheard of. It’s pathetic, honestly.

>>But, said Thornton, “when officers of the Atlanta Police Department threaten to arrest Christians for sharing their faith at the event there will be nothing stopping them from keeping the Gospel message from being heard in this community.”<<

Do doubt, that “Gospel message” they wish to “share” will be something along the lines of “God Hates Fags.”

Seriously: I think that it’s legitimate for the courts to deny counter-demonstrators - some of whom may be virulent hate-espousers - permission to mix freely with the demonstrators. That just seems like commonsense crowd-control to me.

You make that statement based on what evidence? One group of hate filled idiots that manage to get on TV alot? Real Christians are spreading a message about God's love, not hate. I don't know anything about the people in this story, but I wouldn't assume that their message was about hate unless I saw something to confirm it.

Sounds to me like you could use a little "tolerance and diversity" training yourself.

Will you still feel that way when the courts finally get around to denying you your free speech rights or does your opinion only apply to Christians, whom you already know will be spreading a message of "hate" at the homosexual "event"?

And what, since you are an expert, is the "Gospel message"?

The impact of this is enormous. Politicians are unleashing the full armed and intimidating power of the POLICE on citizens who are expressing an opinion.
The USA is no longer free. Fascism and/or stalinism rules.

Rarely is such ignorance so plainly put on display

There are understandable reasons for keeping the two groups apart; but saying someone cannot exercise a counter-demonstration, will not be afforded protection, and most likely will be arrested smacks of a communist oppressed, third world regime, which is just about what we're becoming.

What in the hell has happened to this website?

Yesterday it’s a majority of posters agreeing that parents don’t have the right for their kids to make some noise while swimming in their own backyard pool and now it’s people agreeing that public homosexual celebrations should get special constitutional considerations.

What gives?

I agree. And I think that’s the best way to ‘counter’ this event. Assemble 300,000 Christians in or around the park. All they have to do is raise their voices in song. The cops would be overwhelmed and hard pressed to accomodate all the people arrested. Pick a hymn everyone knows and sing it loud...

Last time around the city fags (er fathers) managed to finesse it into a fizzle. Trial on charges has been put off for a year, their counter lawsuit has not even seen a courtroom yet.
