Polio vacination was suspended in Kano State in August last year after some Muslim imams alleged that the drugs distributed by UN health agencies had been laced with chemicals as part of a western plot to make African girls infertile. On Monday, Kano's Governor Ibrhaim Shekarau announced that local tests had confirmed that the vaccine - which has been in use all over the world for several decades - is indeed safe, and ordered the resumption of vaccination. But Nafiu Baba Ahmed, secretary general of a small but influential pressure group known as the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, attacked the findings and warned that many Muslims would continue to shun the vaccine. Nigeria now has more than three-quarters the world's active polio infections The World Health Organisation and Unicef said that polio, which they still hope to eradicate globally by the end of the year, had spread from Nigeria to other African countries once regarded as safe from the disease. Hubby started a rant. He asked the woman why not just teach your daughters to keep their knickers on?

I find this unbelievably offensive. How about you teach your sons to keep it in their pants? Girls do not bear the brunt of responsibility for having/not having sex; in fact I would guess that girls are not the initiators of teenage sex most of the time. And it's not girls who rape, by and large, now is it? This was an offensive, chauvinistic, misogynist remark, which "Hubby" had no right to make concerning someone else's children.
