WASHINGTON, June 24 (UPI) -- Legislation perceived as amnesty for illegal immigrants has ignited grass-roots groups throughout the United States, it was reported Sunday.
The largest and loudest of the groups, NumbersUSA, reports soaring donations and an 81 percent membership increase since January, the Los Angeles Times said.
Groups like NumbersUSA are playing a larger role than ever in the immigration debate, which could come before the Senate again this week for a pass or fail vote on a bill, the Times said.
NumbersUSA President Roy Beck said he expects to rally the group's 419,000 activist members with dozens of e-mail alerts.
"We're in a war zone right now," said Beck, who touts his battle against pro-bill groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as "an amazing David-and-Goliath thing."
Most polls show U.S. residents are concerned about border security but favor allowing most illegal immigrants now in the country to gain legal status, the Times reported.
There's a reason why Posse Comitatus was quietly suspended this year.
We may have to go to Washington and physically take back 'our' government.
A new ROYALTY has hijacked it, they're calling themselves Republicans and Democrats.
Very nice commentary.
This is a list of every fax machine in the RNC Building.
Let them know how much this immigration bill is detested by the American People. Hit them where it hurts....their wallets!!!
If enough of us let them know that we expect proper representation in Washington, they will get the message.

Bravo, Bob.... well said.
bump
Didn't know that. Could you show me where it is announced, recorded or something like that?
Don’t believe those numbers....
Blam, Debra Saunders apparently writes for the online version of the SF Chronicle.
Although the article referenced here and that I posted can not be found on the Chronicle site.
The Chronicle has more than one sane Conservative writers in its online version. Who'd thunk it?
Needed fixing.
Thanks a lot! :)
If they think that we are loud now, Then let the mountains
ring with our combined voices saying NO WAY on this trashy
bill!
But a proposal for universal health care is again brought up in almost every session of congress by a Democrat.
The same tactic is being used to get the Immigration Bill passed. Like universal health care (socialized medicine)universal health care will be reintroduced again and again until it slips through. It will be a continuing battle between the American people and the government in Washington.
I had a suspicion he was a left side talker - that’s the proof..
Just say NO to Illegal Alien Amnesty!! Keep calling!! Its NOT OVER!!

It will soon catch fire to all rank and file Americans.
This thing has the capability of taking off far greater than anything Ross Perot could amass in the way of grassroots outpouring/backlash, in 1992.
It is unprecedented.
The President and sellout members of the Senate, some right within the GOP, have pushed way too far. We are now past the tipping point.
Kennedy and company know this. That is why they are trying to ram this thing down our throats quickly. No hearings, no serious debate on amendments. We haven't even started to actually show up in large numbers with placards to protest . . . "we" are way too slow with actual physical protest in my opinion, it forces main stream media to face the issue and report it . . . lots of talk but little organization.
