Political speeches used to be abundant in what was called "the silly season."
But now the silly season is not just a season. It's two years.
And who do the greedies think they are kidding? If you run for office for two years, you get to collect more money since political campaign donations cap out at a "per annum" amount.
And with a two year campaign we can get sick and tired of all the candidates over an extended period of time.
They may have started out with fresh debate material, but they've used all the good stuff up. Now they are resorting to stuff that's way far out there.
Like this quote from Obama: "Faith got hijacked, partly because of the so-called leaders of the Christian Right, all too eager to exploit what divides us," the Illinois senator said.
So who hijacked his faith?
See what's happening? If you happen to disagree with any of these candidates, you are going to get branded with doing something despicable. You can't just disagree with them. Oh no. If you do that, you're going to be branded and labeled. The politicos don't bother naming a source or quoting someone specific -- they just throw out a general accusation, then duck behind the nearest inconvenient untruth they can find.
So watch out. I guess you ought to be especially careful if you go to church and worship regularly once a week. Now you're apt to be called a faith hijacker.
And Obama thinks this may endear him politically to whom?
In fact, I'm going to ask some of my friends at church if they know they are considered hijackers. And if they look at me like they don't know what I'm talking about, then I'm going to explain that our senator from Illinois thinks we've hijacked our faith.
I hope they get the idea that this nincompoop senator has become as big a political blowhard as the person he replaced. That's okay. His term will be finished one of these days. Maybe we'll replace him with someone who won't accuse us of hijacking our faith just because we worship regularly.

I hadn’t thought about them getting double contributions for the “per annum” amount. Nice to see that we are now afflicted for 2 years with campaign nonsense because of restrictions on free speech imposed by campaign finance laws. How about we take the caps off and get a nice 6 month campaign or something reasonable?

Hijack...hmm, interesting choice of words from the junior senator from Illinois. I’ve noticed people tend to use words when they are familiar and comfortable with the meaning. So, Mr. Obama, just what kinds of religious people in the world really, by their deeds, do the most “hijacking.”
Maybe he should have accused the religious right of “taking Christianity hostage.” Or that the religious right has “killed off Christianity with a roadside bomb” or “with a mortar attack” or by “flying planes into it.”
Yeah, those fit, too.
