The first measureable snowfall in almost 26 years has blanketed Johannesburg, South Africa, closing roads, delaying flights and claiming at least one life.
Weather officials say as many as 10 centimeters of snow fell over the area Tuesday night and early Wednesday. Children were seen playing in area parks, while others were saving snowballs as souvenirs of the fast-melting snow.
The officials say the last recorded snowfall for the area was in September of 1981. Temperatures Wednesday dipped below freezing in several areas.
Aviation officials say flights at Johannesburg (O.R. Tambo) International airport were delayed for up to three hours while planes were de-iced.
Emergency officials say they found a homeless man dead in Johannesburg's city center. They say the man died from exposure.
Several major roads were closed due to the snow, but transportation officials have reported only minor accidents.
I grew up in Cape Town, Sea Point if you know where that is, till ‘76...did 2 years in the SA Military (’79-’80) in Pretoria (DHQ) and then lived in Johannesburg (’81-’82) and emigrated to the US in ‘82.

I have heard that we may expect global cooling to start about 2020.
If it's colder than normal for any length of time anywhere on Earth, that conclusively disproves global warming. Did you miss a memo?
Interesting that last week Rush Limbaugh was suggesting that the way to show how little faith most people have in Gore’s and the global warmist’s theories wold be to establish betting lines on most of the predictions they’ve been making - and tonight on Fox News there was a story about a environmental scientist who was putting up a bet of ten thousand dollars (to go to charity) that Gore’s claims of future increases in temperature would not be validated - Gore had apparently not responded to the challenge as of air time......

Why Johannisberg is in the southern hemisphere where the climate is opposite that in the northern hemisphere so global warming in the US causes global cooling there...yeah that’s the cause. Bush’s fault.
