Tuition bill nixed Rell veto denies in-state rates to illegals' children

Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell yesterday vetoed a bill that would have extended in-state tuition rates at Connecticut's public colleges and universities to children of illegal immigrants.

Though Rell said she was sympathetic to the students, she said they are living in the United States illegally and she did not want to encourage people to circumvent federal immigration laws.

"I understand these students are not responsible for their undocumented status, having come to the U.S. with their parents," Rell said in a statement. "The fact remains, however, that these students and their parents are here illegally and neither sympathy nor good intentions can ameliorate that fact."

Coy move, but I'm amazed at the statement from the Gov.

I’m sure Bush will have it challenged in court. At our expense of course. Alberto Gonzales will be right on it.

How about ameliorating the Electorate by enforcing our most basic laws of sovereignity and throwing the illegals out?

“...she did not want to encourage people to circumvent federal immigration laws.”

As opposed to Gov. Rick Perry, (R-TX), who pushed in-state tuition for the children of illegals through the feckless TX legislature years ago. Yep, Texas charges kids from OK and NM and LA through the nose with hefty out-of-state tuition prices, but the children of foreign lawbreakers get a pass. How did we ever get stuck with such an inept bunch of pols in Austin?

Don't forget that Austin Community College denied in state tuition to a military vet, because he was living out of the country...

...while deployed in Iraq!

A politician with an ounce of respect and compassion for the Taxpayer. This has got to be some kind of setup.

Interesting. A RINO Governor does something right for a change. Still not much different than having a Dem governor, as either way you're going to have someone who will take the "right" position 10-20% of the time.

Perhaps the reason why Rell was free to vote her coincinence on this one is that the "latino activists" don't own the Government in Conn. the way they do in the border states and the large urban states. Good luck trying to get a RINO or a RAT to veto this crap in those states. In Illinois, we only got 5 "nay" votes in the entire state house on the in-state tuition bill. Scary.

If all our politicians could be right twice, that’d be great.

They’d have a better track record than they do now.
