I think socialism requires (in most cases) women not to wear make-up. Make-up can do wonders....most of the time. But you have to know how to put it on too.
The library where I work processes passports, and we’ve had our share of angry and distraught applicants over the past few weeks.

I am still waiting on certified copies of my kid’s birth certificates and told the wait is 4-6 weeks unless I come in person and then I hand in the application and come back the next day in Dayton, OH, but I don’t live in OH!

It’s a general rule in government service that incompetents are never fired but promoted repeatedly to get them out of whatever office they may be screwing up at any given time.

You should see the lines of happy campers at the local main post office. With characteristic USPS management efficiency a small fortune was spent on remodeling to create a passport application cubby hole off the main lobby, complete with a camera rig, a little table to fill out the forms, velvet crowd control rope thingys to channel the applicants in an orderly fashion, etc.
Management then cut staffing at the window/box section, the applicants are now directed into the main customer service area to join the regular line of satisfied customers.
With the staffing cuts the philatelic window is never open (special counter, posters, display cases for collectibles, etc.) so those customers are also directed into the main line too.
There is however, a business window with an express lane that bypasses the steerage class crowd, much to the plebes collective joy.
Government! Is there anything it can’t do!
That last shot looks like the group atop Lenin’s tomb for the May Day festivities back in the bad old days.
This, along with the price of gasoline and the hassle of airlines, just makes me wonder if everyone involved would just prefer that we not go anywhere much.

I’d love to see a top level down, process improvement plan/IMI team implemented by an outside entity that does this for fortune 1000 & 500 companies, to go through each government agency and kick the fat to the curb... Will never happen though...
