MARIETTA - City officials on Wednesday loosened a ban on war veterans handing out thousands of miniature American flags during next week's Fourth of July parade.

Officials announced yesterday afternoon that the city will allow veterans and others to pass out 3-by-5 inch U.S. flags, but only before and after the parade, not during the 1.5-mile route as they walk next to their "Let Freedom Ring" float.

“What happened to the country I was born in?”

It has been taken over by anti-American left-wing pig faced Nazi Democrats. (Who are supporters of al-Qaeda as they were of Joe and Adolph)

When did the USA become a soviet state?
Banning the passing out of American flags should be dealt with via regime change for the government imposing it.

Sounds like a civil disobedience and take the consequences with pride kind of moment.

Oh, they will allow it before and after, but not during???? They will allow THAT???? The parade and it's government regulatiuons aside, since when do they have the power or the right to ALLOW people to pass out flags outside of this parade???

I say defy the ban and pass out the flags during the 1.5 mile route.

Mike Gabler, Marietta's recreation services manager, said his department, which organizes the parade, and the city have good reasons for not allowing flags to be distributed during the parade. "The reason always has been safety," Gabler said.

And all these years I thought it was disease, famine, crime, natural disasters, and tyrannical governments that killed indiscriminately. When the true culprits turned out to be minature US flags, slicing down populations by the millions.

Marietta Police Chief Dan Flynn said he hopes none of his officers have to arrest anyone next week for passing out U.S. flags.

Then order them not to.

I am scheduled to be in that parade and I can say Marietta is a very conservative town over all. They have a great $th celebration. I believe the concern is simply safety while the vehicles are going by. There have been incidents in the last couple of years of people in surrounding towns being injured trying to catch items as they are thrown from cars and the like.

“There have been incidents in the last couple of years of people in surrounding towns being injured trying to catch items as they are thrown from cars and the like.”

Shouldn’t have to catch a flag as it shouldn’t be thrown. That would result in many flags ending up on the ground which is not proper.

Defy The Ban. Defy The Ban. Defy The Ban. Obey Me. Obey Me. /hypnotism

I believe the concern is simply safety while the vehicles are going by. There have been incidents in the last couple of years of people in surrounding towns being injured trying to catch items as they are thrown from cars and the like.

Then dont "throw" the flag. Hand them out. Besides, if you threw the flags, you might run the risk of some of them hitting the ground, and its against the flag code to allow the american flag to touch the ground. (I'm quite sure you know this, but there are others reading this thread who might not)

I have attended this parade in Marietta for years. Every year, flags have been handed out during the parade by Veteran’s groups. It has been in plain view of the reviewing stand where Marietta city officials sit.

Total revisionist crap.

”VETS ARRESTED DURING PARADE” the headline reads...”Several US military veterans were arrested today during the 4th of july parade for handing out American flags during the parade. The arrests stopped the parade for 30 minutes as the offending veterans were taken into custody and the flags confiscated from the people lining the street”.

The crowd then turned to the arresting officers and confiscated their sidearms and badges. No longer protected by the JBT, the city leaders fled to parts unknown. The parade then resumed it's course and the crowd roared in approval.

I just sent the follwing Letter to the Editor to the Marietta Daily Journal—

“The 4th of July Parade in Marietta is a highlight of my year. For 2 decades, a cabal of friends has staked out a prime spot on the Square, often arriving at 6 a.m. to lay claim to a prime spot for later arriving family members. In fact, I first met my wife at the parade.

We acknowledge our patriotic debt to our country, and savor small town Americana: the marching bands, the children and dogs on parade, the Sheriff’s mounted patrol, and we joyfully exercise our 1st Amendment rights by heckling the parading political class.

But in particular, we appreciate the service and contribution of public safety members and the armed forces. Without fail, veteran’s groups have passed out the now banned flags DURING the parade, and we jockey to the front of the line in order to grab a flag for our smaller children. This is all done in plain view of the adjacent reviewing stand packed with city officials. These people are either disingenuous or blind.

For some reason, this enforcement effort strikes a resonant current chord—right up there with border enforcement in terms of being the Big Lie of the political class.”
