Is he speaking yet? I'm not in my quarters but will be shortly. I want to SEE THIS!!

No, Kay Baily Hutchison is speaking right now. Jeff Sessions just finished but Kennedy is coming up!

Good work to all who wrote/called/faxed their Senator.

It would be appropriate now to send a thank you note to your Senator if s/he voted as you requested. It would be especially good to send a thank you note those who led the fight in the Senate, like Sessions.

It didn’t get 50 votes for cloture? What a weak showing.

Bush / Kennedy / McCain must understand they can’t even get a majority of elitists to back their amnesty for lawbreakers.

Woo Hoo. This is the best news I’ve had all week. Hopefully this bill is dead for good. The majority of DU seems like they hated the immigration bill too. Obviously it was for different reasons, but it’s strange to see DU and Free Republic both agree on an issue that is very important.

This turned into a battle not of Democrats vs. Republicans, but of the inside corrupt politician vs. the average american worker. And thankfully the right side appears to have won, atleast for now anyways.

This bill had some trade legislation in it and it was good for Mexico. I’ve been hearing about that aspect some now on talk radio. It’s time to return to the original legislation and see why the president was so frantic that it would pass. There’s a reason why senate leaders wanted to pass it quickly so that folks wouldn’t have a chance to read what was in it. We should now get educated for the next round. Hugh Hewitt, for one, has read this and knows a lot about the small print.

It looks like once they knew it was going down, a lot of republicans jumped to vote the “right” way.

It will be later this year. The Senate has political cover now, because they rejected this one. The new bill will be "so much better" and "so much more focused on security" that many Republicans will switch to support it.

And we'll be fighting en masse to break any bill that doesn't seal the borders first. I know Duncan Hunter is like 1% in the polling, which just baffles me, because he's the obvious conservative to give us true border security while fighting the WOT. The GOP primaries are just as important in winning the immigration debate. Any Bush moderate who wins the nomination. will sign a poor immigration bill.

They should be deported. It can be done in both direct and indirect ways. Eisenhower deported huge numbers without any problems. Until the wall is up we need our military more on the border than in Iraq. How terrible that the biggest threat to this country comes from the White House and the Senate.

The Swimmer is back on the floor of the Senate. Wonder if he’s going to call us “Gestapo” again...

Ha Ha. Reid this morning was quoted as saying he had 40 democrats, and needed 20 republicans.

He only had 34. He couldn’t even keep his own people in line.

I’m sure though that a lot of the no votes would have been yes if they had been the last vote necessary for cloture.

They just were covering themselves.

On the other hand, I could be wrong. Yesterday was such an embarrassment to Reid that a lot of senators may have just decided the process was to disgusting to support any more. I’ve rarely seen anybody mess up the functioning of the Senate so bad in my life.
