President Bush Disappointed by Congress's Failure to Act on Comprehensive Immigration Reform
The White House ^ | June 28, 2007 | GW Bush

Posted on 06/28/2007 12:40:20 PM PDT by TomGuy

12:38 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: I thank the members of the Senate and members of my administration who worked so hard on the border security and immigration reform bill. I'm sorry the Senate was unable to reach agreement on the bill this morning.

Legal immigration is one of the top concerns of the American people and Congress's failure to act on it is a disappointment. The American people understand the status quo is unacceptable when it comes to our immigration laws. A lot of us worked hard to see if we couldn't find a common ground -- it didn't work.

Congress really needs to prove to the American people that it can come together on hard issues. The Congress needs to work on comprehensive energy policy and good health care; make sure health care is affordable without inviting the federal government to run the health care system. We've got to work together to make sure we can balance this federal budget, and not overspend or raise taxes on the American people. We've got a lot of work to do.

When they come back from the summer -- from the July recess, before the summer break begins, we'll be focusing on the appropriations process. And I look forward to working with Congress to balance our budgets and to be wise about how we spend the people's money.

Thank you for your time.

END 12:40 P.M. EDT

On 9/13/01, Jorge stepped off the pile at Ground Zero, and from that day to this, has done *nothing* regarding a border fence.

He has treated the American people and legal residents with nothing but arrogance and disdain. He has PURPOSELY DEFIED us concerning border security, and has shown preferential treatment towards a single group, i.e., illegal aliens, primarily Mexicans.

Jorge has dismissed the base, now let him shift for himself. Let him see what life is like without our support.

If I EVER receive an appeal for a contribution to the GWB Presidential Library, I’ll send some of those “Gringo de Mexico” pesos.

To President Bush.

I am ashamed of giving my time, money and votes to a person who wants to reward CRIMINALS who overstay their visas or just INVADE.
Maybe your oath of office meant nothing to YOU!

Loved yours!

By the way, that’s Snowjob driving the truck, and Rove (not “Magnificent” - just plain ol’ b@stard) warmin’ the seat.

We need a fence. Laura Bush is in Mozambique announcing $507 million in assistance to build roads and fight malaria. The money should instead go for a fence.

Well, what Bush really needs to do, is to stop working as one of Ted Kennedy’s staffers.

Maybe now Bush could do something for the Repubs for a change. Like pardon Libby, pardon the Kangaroo Courted Border Patrol agents and stop imprisoning BP agents when they do their jobs. Actively investigate Dem corruption. Etc.

Just as they did back in the Robber Baron days...it's no different now...revolt/strike....start buying made in America where possible, for those living in America.....

I tend to think that the Robber Baron era is over. Moreover, I don't think the American consumer has will to organize, start and continue a long-term "buy American" campaign.

Furthermore, global business is cut throat with decreasing profit margins. Europe is smart enough to have a cheap intellectual/non-professional labor work force from Eastern Europe and North Africa. America has issued many H1 Visas (I was one of the many victims of this policy) for a cheap professional work force but lacks a cheap "grunt work" work force.

There is no other alternative.....I see none.

As wages become more depressed, and more Americans become less able to live as they once could....more will wake up. It is always the poor and the lower classes of this country which have to reach a frustration level that goes from the ground up for change.

That will happen again....but it may end up in a war....

There is no major legislation that is expected to pass until after the elections, so he might as well concentrate on seeing our military involvement in Iraq carried through successfully, before retiring to Crawford Mexico City...future site of the GWB Presidential Library.

How's that? :o)

I tend to agree. The only obvious option would be a North American Union. Cheap labor from Mexico in exchange for an American intellectual/professional work force and an affordable place to retire for Americans. It sounds good on paper but the quality of life of Americans would be drastically reduced.

That is NO option at all. I'm 100% against that.

If the base stands firm, Jorge will soon begin to suffer the loss of our consortium. I await this with eager expectation! You’ll see!

This was filled with underhanded tactics brought to us by the WH and Mr. Rove who we are paying his salary. Disgusting!
:::::
Of course it was, to say the least, and I would bet that these elitists don’t think we realize that -— I think they are really that out of touch with reality and the American public. The really sad part was the fascism that surfaced on both sides of the aisle, namely the attack on the Free Speech Rights of talk radio -— Lott is toast from my perspective, and so are the fascist libs that think they are going to take our First Amendment rights away.

Washington has REALLY been exposed, and they don’t like it — get ready for anything.
