The defeat of amnesty for illegal aliens is a good moment. Against widespread expectations, a 53 to 46 majority voted against it. The conservative grass roots did an outstanding job of framing the issue with honesty and well-informed candor. The American people saw it for what it was and wouldn't stand for it.
However, this isn't the end of it. In fact, the worst thing that could be done is for opponents to declare victory and lose focus. The key is to read between the lines.
The fact is, the majority of the U.S. Senate supports some form of amnesty for illegal aliens. We were fortunate that those people were unable to unite on how to give it to them, and how many minor concessions to grant to supporters of border security. There were, in fact, a few good things in the bill, even though the bill as a whole was against the national interest. It turns out that there are two widely different groups who support this- politically correct liberals and globalist, corporatist RINO's. Some of those RINO's have cast many conservative votes. But the two were unable form enough unity to put it over the top. Some who voted for the bill did so reluctantly, and would be willing to support another amnesty bill, provided it includes things they called for.
Even at that, this bill would have succeeded had not the American people, prompted by conservative activists, jammed the phone lines and e-mails with angry messages warning of opposition at the polls. But the people who want to grant amnesty to some 20 million illegals want it badly, for their own selfish purposes. So they may have set aside their plans for the time being, but they will be back. This isn't the last of it.
This is my personal editorial. Any ideas on to keep this monstrosity from rising from the grave are encouraged.
Push Enforcement at the State and Local level, dump the Federal Judges and get it done. Always assuming that the Feds are not going to do so!?
My ideas are probably unprintable, as they center around how best to water the Tree of Liberty.
have the next bunch enforce the laws, or they will be thrown out also
Help out over here on this new ping list designed just for that purpose.

I agree. The best thing to do is to declare victory and maintain focus on enforcing current laws and securing the border. I think we also need to get the pro-amnesty idiots out of key GOP positions (yes, Lott and Martinez, I'm referring to YOU).
New Revised Immigration Bill:
1. Secure our borders with physical walls if need be and uphold/reiterate existing immigration laws (no need for new ones).
2. Immediately deport all illegal aliens in jail and in prison.
3. Give those that see the will of the American people, a chance to return south of the border (many will after seeing the first two items implemented).
4. Force a screening process for all illegals who remain in the US and put them through the same rigors as a legal immigrant including pledges of allegiance to the USA and to learning our language. Those who don't cooperate are deported.
5. As we secure our borders from illegal immigration, may we resolve to continue the fight to preserve our language, borders and culture.
Maybe an addendum that we don't forget to welcome legal immigrants with open arms remembering that throughout our history, they have often proved to be the most patriotic and hard working of all our citizens.
Yes, I do have an idea. Some of the people who are really good at research, can trace back the connections and find out why some of these people were pushing so hard for this bill, even at the risk of their careers. If it can be discovered how they were going to personally gain, I think this could go a long way towards keeping the vampire in the coffin.
Pelosi, Reid and President Bush are firm believers in the “resurrection of the dead” [bills, that is...]
Enforcing the laws and the fence is next. But I fear it wont happen until an election.
Is there a way to ping me on major issues (like amnesty) & not everything going through?
Excellent idea.
All I know is if you heard Specter after this went down, you know they have not given up and they will be back. It sounds like their plan will be to sneak bits and pieces into other Bills when we’re not watching them and perhaps when their fellow Senators who are against amnesty don’t notice it either. Watch for them to do some stuff by voice vote as they prepare to leave for some vacation. That’s how they usually pass the really unpopular UN garbage.
Learn to spell?
It’s not my list. You’d have to ask Politicalmom. Don’t forget she’s also maintaining a Fred pinglist. Don’t make it too tough on her. :)
>> New Revised Immigration Bill:
We need enforcement and smart consumerism. Know where your money is going.
I'll believe it when I see it. And see it faithfully executed for a couple of years at least. Including the part about going after employers.
Then maybe we can talk about other things.
