Six-figure speaker fee for Kofi Annan raises eyebrows at CU ( Raising Tuition next year too )

BOULDER — University of Colorado students paid $160,000 in April to hear former U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan say the people of the world must work together to bring about peace.

The amount came as a surprise Wednesday to several members of CU's board of regents, who saw the figure on a routine list of speakers and their fees for the school year that just ended.

Annan was far ahead of the second-highest-paid speaker, liberal historian and activist Howard Zinn, who received $15,500.

The amount for the one-hour speech brought calls from some regents for more frequent audits of student government, which has a $33.8 million annual budget and oversees most campus speaking engagements. It hasn't had a full review in four years, though the student health center has been monitored, campus auditor Jean Stewart told the board.

"It's a large budget, and you have young, inexperienced people (in student government)," Regent Tom Lucero said following the Wednesday meeting. He raised the question of Annan's fee.

Of the $160,000, Annan received $100,000. The rest was for transportation, lodging, food and two security men...

How many students could have received their education for that amount?

I’m in Colorado, and had we known Kofi was going to be here, we would have Freeped him. I’ll share a little story about CU:

Back when the anti-gunners and Million Mom March were in full swing, Charlton Heston came ot speak at CU. The university paid him $25,000, and the leftists had a fit. They organized a big protest and the local Tyranny Response Team came out to counter protest.

Visualize this: Two hundred screaming college kids, a line of police tape, a street full of cops, more police tape, and two hundred pro second amendment counter protestors screaming back. It was wild. The little college girls were chanting some litle chant that went “2,4,6,8, blah, blah, blah...” over and over. Suddenly there came the opposing chant from our side “GUNS STOP RAPE! GUNS STOP RAPE!.........”. The horror on their faces! You would have thought someone had just kicked their dog. LOL!
Hestons speech was excellent, I thought CU got a good bang for their buck.

This is disgusting. This is higher ed scam where speakers come speak for 5 or 6 figure rates. Eventually this cost rolls into the student’s tuition or some kind of mandatory fee for things they don’t control. $160K for Koffee. $15.5K for the #2 speaker which is a good day’s pay for a speech. I feel bad for the kids. Also, it shows what kind of person Koffee is by taking the kid’s money.

Make that "Leftist (the very leftest) historian..." So Zinn commands $15K a speech? Only at a university. I'd love to see his tax return. It's probably a chapter unto itself in the "A (rich, greedy, & hypocritical) People's History."

Two days of travel for three people comes to $60K? To talk to a bunch of kids living in dormitories? This guy just smells crooked.

Hmmm, 60 Grand to cover transportation, lodging, food and two security goons.

Did they buy an airline? Rent an entire hotel? Buy food for the entire illegal immigrant community? Pay the goons $20,000 per night?

This smells like 4 day old Hillary fish.

If Annan revealed to the audience just how to set up and run a multi-million dollar oil for food scam it will be money well spent.

The students will all be set for life..

The most disappointing news about the Gates Foundation ever:

Former U.N. chief Kofi Annan said on Thursday he would head a new green group bankrolled by Microsoft chairman Bill Gates to help reverse Africa's declining food production and double output.

How could they do business with this moron?

Things like this drive me "nucking futs"!

some speeches are worth $160,000, but Kofi Annan has never given one ...

If the University of Colorado student government has so much money that that it can squander a speaker’s fee of that size on the vapid musings of the former United Nations secretary-general, as it did in April, maybe that’s a sign that it is grossly overfunded.
