Thursday’s defeat of the immigration bill will boost the chances of a Democratic victory in 2008, giving Hillary Clinton – the probable Democratic candidate – a strong advantage, according to political strategist Dick Morris.

"Hispanic voters will undoubtedly blame the Republicans for the failure of the bill,” says Morris,

"In 2004, George Bush made progress among Latino voters, coming within 10 points of John Kerry among Hispanics after losing them by 30 points to Al Gore four years before. But in 2006, Latinos voted Democrat by more than 40 points, according to exit polls, because of their anger at the harsh Republican immigration proposals.

"Now that the Republicans have defeated the immigration bill, they will very likely pay a steep price at the polls in 2008.”

Dick Morris thinks ethnic pandering is going to benefit the Democrats. I'd like to see their candidates DEFEND amnesty to the country in an election year.

I guess we will have to wait and see....i don’t have any predictions for 2008...the shenanigans in the senate the last few weeks have been very eye opening for a lot of us..actually breath taking arrogance for all to see....i would imagine that includes some slightly left of center dems...heck i even think “some” far left moonbats were sickened by this bill....a lot can happen between now and then.

Could not disagree more with Dick about who will eventually come out on top.

Remember Dick has stated all along that Hellary would win in 08.

He even wrote that in a book if I remember correctly.

"Hispanic voters will undoubtedly blame the Republicans for the failure of the bill,” says Morris,

Actually, the media is writing this as if it were Bush's bill and he was defeated in his attempt. Of course that's the MSM's attempt to hook a defeat on Bush...but the pro-illegal immigration group are picking that up and blaming the senate for the defeat...which are the dems. Earlier this evening I saw a post that quoted just such an individual. Of course a single person is highly anecdotal, but it might not be as Morris claims. He's been predicting a Hillary presidency for quite some time now...so he seems inclined to read everything into that paradigm of his.

Dick Morris suggested for Bush to concentrate on “energy independence” and “clean energy” policy during 2006 election cycle, to divert attention from “Iraq”. Result - horrible corn ethanol policy fiasco and non-issue 2006 campaign.

The lesson? Don’t take advice from a Dick.

"Hispanic voters will undoubtedly blame the Republicans for the failure of the bill,” says Morris.

Many "Hispanic Voters" have seen their own incomes diminished as a result of being hit by low wage illegals! They are not universally in favor of promoting wage competitors who will undercut their economic status!

Yeah, the republicans AND the democrats that voted no on cloture today just completely blew the illegal alien vote.

Many, maybe most, of the good American citizens of mexican immigrant descent who jumped through all the hoops and did things legally and honorably actually appreciate those that did not allow Kennedy, McCain, Kyl and Bush to cheapen their hard work and success with this abomination that would have allowed people who don’t appreciate what America is all about enough to follow its laws.

Morris is interesting, sometimes amazingly correct, more often wrong. He is VERY wrong on this one. I doubt that Morris even knows any of the naturalized Americans that came from Mexico or points south.

if the wetbacks have such voting clout, why don’t they create their own party and run one of their own for president

You are right about the arrogance of the Senate, don't forget the insanity of the White House for bringing up this issue at all.

The status quo was just fine, Bush has done nothing but piss off his base and pretty much assure that Hillary will be President.

The GOP will lose either Texas or Florida in 2008 due to legal hispanics voting dumbocrat.

The Hispanics and Latinos I know don’t like the Immigration bill, and the entire issue of illegals. They feel that it demeans their own achievements, even more so than affirmative action does for blacks (except, of course, their “leaders” - usual affirmative action and poverty pimps), and also reflects badly on them.

Republicans may get less of the hispanic vote in 2008, but are more likely to get more of the Reagan Democrats. Only 26% of Americans were in favor of this stupid bill.

I am making sure that everyone I know who does not pay much attention to politics knows about this fiasco and the DemocRAT candidates sell out to illegals.

I saw this interview....one thing he said that did concern me is that if Hillary gets in, she will move forward The DREAM Act.....which apparently (according to Morris) gives AMNESTY to any illegal who can manage to hide from INS and avoid deportation for 5 years. Then they automatically get some of the same things that were in the Senate Bill!!!

I read elsewhere (on Forbes, I think, a banned source on FR for copyright reasons) that they are going to try and attach the DREAM and Ag Lobby provisions in other bills in the next few days.

That's not what the illegals are saying:

"Bush wanted to do something good, but the Senate wouldn't let him. It's disappointing" Miguel Gonzalez, 37, who has been in the United States for five years, said in Spanish.

The ilegals believe dingy Harry Reid is the villain -- LOL!
