Bomb components found in second car on London street
CNN ^ | 6/29/2070 | n/a

LONDON, England (CNN) -- A second car found on a London street on Friday contained possible bomb materials, sources told CNN, hours after police disarmed an explosives-filled car in the city's busy theater district.

The second car was towed from Trafalgar Square to Park Lane overnight, because it was illegally parked, the sources said.

At the Park Lane garage, workers called authorities when they became suspicious after news of the first incident, because the car smelled of gas.

Police and security sources say the car was found to contain components very similar to the first car -- definitely fuel, and possibly much more.

They said the car is of grave concern, and could potentially be a second car bomb.

A senior U.S. official with knowledge of the London investigation told CNN the car was linked to the vehicle outside the club, and that some materials found inside the car were very similar to explosive materials found in the car near Piccadilly.

Security sources told CNN they believed the first device found -- loaded with fuel, gas cylinders and nails -- was set up for remote detonation.

Police said it could have caused huge numbers of casualties.

British police anti-terror chief Peter Clarke said detectives were examining security camera footage after the car was found outside a nightclub in the heart of London's theater district shortly before 2 a.m. on Friday (10:00 pm ET Thursday).

Police deactivated the explosives but the incident stoked renewed fears of a terrorist strike, almost two years after London's transport network was hit by deadly suicide bombers.

Security sources told CNN that the "relatively crude device" found in the first car near Piccadilly Circus contained at least 200 liters, or about 50 gallons, of fuel in canisters.

Clarke said the explosives would have resulted in significant injury and loss of life had they detonated.

Brown, whose predecessor's support of the Iraq war provoked anger among Islamic militants, said Britain faced "a serious and continuous threat" and the public needs to be alert at all times.

They only failed because it looks like they couldn't get a cellphone to work..

They also failed because they were not willing to die to destroy their target.

The cellphone was only necessary because they insisted on remote detonation.

If this isn’t put in breaking then it would be very helpful to ammend the title of the first car bomb thread to show that another car bomb has been found.

This second finding changes everything. Thank God they didn’t blow.

OK, I'll stop ridiculing them for their cameras for a little while.

Police deactivated the explosives ...

Clarke said the explosives would have resulted in significant injury and loss of life had they detonated.

What explosives? What would have detonated?? Propane tanks don't detonate. They can cause a gas explosion if they are ruptured. Where were the explosives and what were they?

Something seems wrong here.

Here we go:

Was London Bomb Plot Heralded On Web?
Internet Forum Comment From Night Before: "London Shall Be Bombed"

**************************EXCERPT**************************

LONDON, June 29, 2007

CBS) This article was written by CBSNews.com's Tucker Reals.

Quote

"There was no indication that we were going to be attacked this way".

Peter Clarke, Counter-Terrorism commander

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Hours before London explosives technicians dismantled a large car bomb in the heart of the British capital's tourist-rich theater district, a message appeared on one of the most widely used jihadist Internet forums, saying: "Today I say: Rejoice, by Allah, London shall be bombed."

CBS News found the posting, which went on for nearly 300 words, on the "al Hesbah" chat room. It was left by a person who goes by the name abu Osama al-Hazeen, who appears regularly on the forum. The comment was posted on the forum, according to time stamp, at 08:09 a.m. British time on June 28 -- about 17 hours before the bomb was found early on June 29.

Al Hesbah is frequently used by international Sunni militant groups, including al Qaeda and the Taliban, to post propaganda videos and messages in their fight against the West.

There was no way for CBS News to independently confirm any connection between the posting made Thursday night and the car bomb found Friday.

Al-Hazeen's message begins: "In the name of God, the most compassionate, the most merciful. Is Britain Longing for al Qaeda's bombings?"

Al-Hazeen decries the recent knighthood of controversial author Salman Rushdie as a blow felt by all British Muslims. "This 'honoring' came at a crucial time, a time when the whole nation is reeling from the crusaders attacks on all Muslim lands," he said, in an apparent reference to the British role in Iraq.

"We say to Britain: The Emir of al Qaeda, Sheikh Osama, has once threatened you, and he carried out his threats. Today I say: Rejoice, by Allah, London shall be bombed," the message reads.

Speaking at a news conference Friday after the bomb scare in central London, the Metropolitan Police force's Counter-Terrorism Commander Peter Clarke said that officials had "no indication that we were going to be attacked this way".

Meanwhile CNN is asking if this is related to Iraq, and why there have been NO attempts in the U.S. since 9-11.

I know the answer and even CNN knows the answer to that one. If there is a second major attack in the US, .... Iran, Syria and possibly Saudi Arabia would be a smoking hole.

London vacation, anyone?

Actually, a friend who lives in Scotland invited me to come over. But there aren't strong enough chains to pull me onto any aircraft, especially one that lands in the U.K.

What short memories CNN staffers have- what in the heck did they think the London Airline plots were aimed at?

How about the 2004 convention subway plot set for NY?

The 2006 Hudson tunnel plot?

The September 2002 shootings at LAX by al-Gamaa al Islamiya, a member of Bin Laden's group?

The late 2005 Algerian GSPC plot to strike targets in the USA that Italy busted up? They couldn't even recall the JFK airport plot or Ft Dix plot?

Its an Al Qaeda plot...there will be other car bombs...its there signature

Actually Propane cylinders packed in with nails as the payload in a car bomb is a Palestinian signature. But since Al Queda is now in Gaza, you may just be correct.
