Alarmist global warming claims melt under scientific scrutiny
Chicago Sun Times ^ | 30 June 07 | James Taylor

Posted on 06/30/2007 10:30:56 AM PDT by NavVet

Many of the assertions Gore makes in his movie, ''An Inconvenient Truth,'' have been refuted by science, both before and after he made them. Gore can show sincerity in his plea for scientific honesty by publicly acknowledging where science has rebutted his claims.

For example, Gore claims that Himalayan glaciers are shrinking and global warming is to blame. Yet the September 2006 issue of the American Meteorological Society's Journal of Climate reported, "Glaciers are growing in the Himalayan Mountains, confounding global warming alarmists who recently claimed the glaciers were shrinking and that global warming was to blame."

Gore says we only have 10 years left to do something about global warming. That is when everyone will realize that it is a scam and it will be too late to use it to transfer power and money to the elites.

Well, lessee here, Soviet Communism lasted 74 years. Allowing for the increasing speed of information transmission, and for the increase in the increase of the rate, the 2nd derivative shows...about 23 years.

Figure that Gork started off full-steam in 1993, I guess we're OK by 2016 or so.

By which time, of course, the moonbat left will have invented some other ridiculous ''crisis'' about which we're all supposed to be terrified.

The only cure for these morons, one way or another, is either complete ostracism or a bullet.

There have been scads of articles recently throwing into doubt any of Gore’s and the other gw doomists claims. But does anyone think these scientifically researched news will dent the skulls of the doomists? Dream on. They’re on a mission from their gods, Mother Nature and Marx. The truth will not deter them. Paul Ehrlich is still treated as a major figure in the environmentalist wacko movement.

I made the observation some time ago that Global Warming was like psychoanalysis, an ideology, not a scientific theory.

Karl Popper famously critized psychoanalysis during the 1930’s as an ideology. The hallmark of a scientific theory is falsifiability, something that GW lacks. If it snows in May, that’s due to Global Warming, if it’s warm in January likewise.

Rain, drought, blizzard, hurricane, heat wave, cold spell; all observations confirm GW with probability 1.0.

Actually, I think I'd tend to fade that bet.

Two reasons: 1) they've tried it before, and everybody pooh-poohed it (and rightly so), and 2) as the moonbats are finding out now (the marginally sane ones, at any rate), it's VERY difficult to make any sort of case that H. Sapiens supersedes Nature in ANYthing.

We simply cannot afford to gamble against this possibility by ignoring it. We cannot risk inaction. Those scientists who say we are entering a period of climatic instability [i.e., unpredictability] are acting irresponsibly. The indications that our climate can soon change for the worse are too strong to be reasonably ignored.

Since the Reagan administration we’ve had agencies studying the rise in sea level. Over the next century, if the current trend continues this can become a problem for low lying coastal areas.

The level of oceans has been studied a lot longer than that.

http://www.john-daly.com/ has photos of "The 1841 sea level benchmark (centre) on the `Isle of the Dead', Tasmania.". This mark suggests that sea levels haven't changed noticably in the last 166 years. And yes, they have factored out any tectonic plate moves that might have shifted the mark upwards.

Global warming/climate change is all about letting the government have a bigger role in our lives; and of course taking away more individual freedom.
And of course the pesky thing of following the money trail.

Facts have no place in the equation for the pushers of this junk science.
And when this nonsense is totally discredited; they will be on to something else with the same end in mind.

Anyone remember the “acid rain” scare of a few years back ? Coal fired utilities were supposedly acidifying the finger lakes of the Adirondacks. Turns out the ground was acidic and the acidification was caused by ground water runoff into the lakes. Next bogeyman, please...

I don’t know why one mark would be different from the other measures.

The rise in oceans is slow - about 2 mm per year over the last hundreds of years. You might want to look at the National Snow and Ice Data Center’s work. They were founded in 1957 and Federalized under Reagan in 1982.

They look at hundreds of measure and have concluded that about half of the sea level rise is from ice melt and half from thermal expansion of the seas.

It looks like the sea level rise has accelerated since 1980 or so - long before those measurements were being connected with global warming.
http://nsidc.org/sotc/sea_level.html

But again, this rise slow and will only effect coastal areas and by feet not tens of feet in the coming century.

BTW, NSIDC, the agency that studies the rise in sea level is a joint project of NASA, NOAA and the National Science foundation - there are lots of interesting things at that site about oceans and ice and such.
