olice confident in bombers hunt
|
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Peter Clarke said he was "absolutely confident" of uncovering detail of the attackers' methods and network. A Jeep containing gas cylinders driven into Glasgow Airport has been linked to two failed car bombs in London. Five people have been arrested - in Cheshire, Liverpool and at the airport. BBC correspondent Daniel Sandford said police were looking for one other suspect, which might explain why the country remained on its highest state of security alert - critical. This means an attack is expected "imminently". 'Outrage'
Mr Clarke said: "The investigation into these attacks is extremely fast-moving. It is no exaggeration at all to say that new information is coming to light hour by hour." "I'm confident - absolutely confident - that in the coming days and weeks we will be able to gain a thorough understanding of the methods used by the terrorists, of the way in which they planned their attacks, and of the network to which they belong." He said forensic searches of vehicles were proving "extremely valuable" and thousands of hours of CCTV were being sifted through. Strathclyde Police issued the registration number of the Jeep used in the airport attack - L808 RDT - and appealed for information about sightings of the vehicle in recent weeks. Assistant Chief Constable John Malcolm said the force was receiving about 100 calls an hour from the public. "This reflects the outrage felt in our communities at this act, and the calls we are receiving are supportive of the police actions," he said. Controlled explosion Earlier Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the UK would not yield despite the threat from people associated with al-Qaeda.
The government's emergency response unit, Cobra, has held its fourth meeting in three days. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith will make a statement on the situation in the Commons on Monday. Scotland Yard said two people arrested on the M6 in Cheshire overnight - a 26-year-old man and 27-year-old woman - and another 26-year-old man arrested in Liverpool, have all been taken to Paddington Green police station in London for questioning. Merseyside Police have been searching two addresses in the Liverpool area.
Staffordshire Police said its officers have been searching an address in Newcastle-under-Lyme with the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit and Met personnel. One of the suspects held at Glasgow Airport suffered severe burns and was taken to Royal Alexandra Hospital, in Paisley, where he remains in a critical condition. There is an armed police guard around the suspect. The BBC has learned those arrested were of varying Middle Eastern nationalities. A controlled explosion was later carried out at the hospital on a car, thought to be connected to the attack on Glasgow Airport, police said. Searches have taken place at addresses in Houston, Renfrewshire, close to the airport.
The UK moved to its highest level of terror alert after the Jeep Cherokee crashed into the main doors of Glasgow Airport's main terminal and burst into flames. The Glasgow incident came the day after two Mercedes containing petrol, gas cylinders and nails were found outside the Tiger Tiger club in London's Haymarket and a nearby street on Friday, but the devices did not detonate. Glasgow Airport was fully opened on Sunday afternoon, almost 24 hours after the incident. A number of other airports have stepped up security, including Heathrow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Birmingham, Manchester and Blackpool. Airport operator BAA later closed Heathrow's terminal three after a suspect package was found. There is heightened security and a heavy police presence at Wembley Stadium, where up to 63,000 people are attending the memorial concert for Diana, Princess of Wales. Security is also to be stepped up at the Wimbledon Championships, in south-west London, when the tennis tournament resumes on Monday. Road blocks have been set up in front of the gates to the All England Club.
'Al-Qaeda link' Deputy Chief Constable Andy Trotter said British Transport Police would "do everything we possibly can to make people safe in their journeys to work tomorrow across the country".
"We'll be out in force. We'll be doing a lot of things they can see and an awful lot of things they can't see in the background to make their arrival back at work on Monday morning as safe as possible," he said. Security has been tightened at airports across the US. The prime minister told Andrew Marr on BBC One's Sunday AM it was "clear that we are dealing, in general terms, with people who are associated with al-Qaeda". "It's obvious that we have a group of people - not just in this country, but round the world - who're prepared at any time to inflict what they want to be maximum damage on civilians, irrespective of the religion of these people who are killed or maimed are to be," Mr Brown said.

My apologies, been away from TV and computer most of day. Are those arrested homegrown or middle easterners?
Hmmmm...let me think.
Burning cars driven into airport buildings. Cars with tanks of propane ready to explode. There, that wasn't so difficult, was it?
Dog, it did do some damage.
The most embarrassing part is that they used a Chrysler.
If their aim had been better,.... looks like they could have blasted their way into the interior and REALLY done some bad damage....
The media has been purposely hiding that info because they know whichever it is it will inflame the population.
Terrorist suspects 'not Scottish'
Answers might be there....
The BBC has learned those arrested were of varying Middle Eastern nationalities.
I'm flying out from Glasgow to Johannesburg tomorrow morning - hope to God the terminal is fully open
Thank You.

Fascinating Analysis of Leftist Goals, August 13, 2006
Reviewer: N. Sincerity - See all my reviews
A former 1960s radical, Horowitz is well-acquainted with the Leftist mindset. In this book, he strives to explain the modern alliance between left wing progressivists and radical Islamofascists. He argues that this alliance is based on a common desire to destroy Western capitalism. Leftist sympathy with Islamofascist ideas makes no sense from an intellectual point of view, given that countries ruled by radical Islamists are among the most racist, sexist, theocratic states in the world today. However, Leftists have recognized that they can benefit politically from destructive terrorist attacks on the Western world. A West under attack can be made to turn on its leaders in fear and desperation (as they did in Spain after the Madrid train bombings). Only once people reject current government structures can the Left execute its anti-capitalist revolution and build a new reality that mirrors the Leftist view of utopia.
The complete and utter idealogical hypocrisy of the Islamofascist-Leftist alliance is distressing, but as Horowitz reminds us,

Thanks for the ping, and a good report.
OK, it's not a quote, but most of the British have to be thinking it.

> The links between three terror attacks in Glasgow and

> counter-terrorism officer.
Duhhhhh...
Says it all when the London Times reported that the bombers were not Irish. Didn’t say that they were Mohamheads, just that they weren’t Irish.
Incredible PC foolishness will get them killed.
‘More unexploded propane. It sure is a good thing these terrorists werent very good at it.’
It has been known for many years by the British security services as the “Paddy factor”. The paddy factor states that 2/3rds of terrorist attacks will be unsuccessful due to the incompetence of the terrorists. It is the remaining 1/3rd we need to worry about.
