Howdy everyone!
Woo hoo!! Are you ready for a FReepathon?!
Well, we do indeed live in interesting times. This is the weekend that the treasonous liberals, RINOs and turncoats were going to work overtime to ramrod the amnesty bill through and it looked like they had everything going their way, but a funny thing happened on the way to the Senate. Hundreds of thousands of outraged grassroots conservatives united, mobilized and turned out to instill the fear of voter rebellion into the minds of the weak and vulnerable fence sitters and would be turncoats, and courage into the hearts of the stalwart conservative senators. And, lo and behold, the cursed sovereignty threatening bill was killed. Oohrah!!
Congratulations and thank you FReepers and grassroots conservatives all across the fruited plains! Without your magnificent performance, our borders would have been erased, our national sovereignty lost, and all chances of ever electing a conservative government again gone forever. Conservatism is definitely alive and kicking in America! And Free Republic is alive and still kicking liberal butt on the Net!!
Recently, a cabal of RINOs and moderates on FR tried to convince us that conservatism is dead. That America had rejected conservatism and therefore we must elect moderates who will govern from the middle, ie, from the left of center. Conservatives had held their boot to the neck of the GOP for too long, they said. And they declared the only "electable" Republican for president is the abortion/gay activist, gun grabbing, illegal alien pandering NY liberal, Rudy Giuliani. Well, we put the kibosh to them, and last week's defeat of the libs and RINOs puts the kibosh to their defeatist liberal ideas.
RudyMcRomney is now falling and a new star is rising. FRed is now the only major candidate with momentum gathering in the right direction and he hasn't even declared yet. Got a feeling that soon after he declares, he'll be blasting the doors off the competition. FRed is an unabashed conservative. And he's got a great conservative record, is well-versed on all our issues, is articulate, charismatic and popular with the people. And he is the Rudy killer! Once Rudy and McCain's campaigns are sunk, all conservative boats will rise. Unlike RudyMcRomney, Thompson/Hunter are not the media's choice. Nor are they the Republican leadership's choice. They're the grassroots conservatives' choice! Great concept, eh?
We were kind of down in the dumps after the 2006 fiasco and then having turncoat RINOs and liberals as our so-called front runners for so long, but now that we have fine conservatives like Thompson, Hunter, Tancredo, et al, making solid progress, and after having witnessed the actions of rhe grassroots conservatives during the last few weeks, I'm starting to get optimistic about our chances. Looks like we will be electing conservatives after all, and we will continue putting conservatives on the court and we will begin making headway against the liberals!
Yes, grassroots conservatism is alive and well. It's united, mobilized, energized, and locked and loaded for action. It's about to take the nation by storm. Hold on to your hats!!
And as a result of all of the above, Free Republic is stronger, more conservative, and more focused than ever before. The libs and moderates have left for WAnkers.net and conservatives are uniting and gaining strength on FR.
If your interests and goals include defending Life and Liberty, defending the constitution and our freedoms, defending our national sovereignty and securing our borders, fighting the libs and advancing our conservative causes and candidates, then FR is the place to be in the months ahead. Free Republic IS the premier conservative news and discussion site!
And as always, we are most grateful and appreciative of your support.
God bless America, God bless our troops and God bless you all.

New valves required to shut off gas in event of an earthquake

DANVILLE -- If you are about to remodel your house in Danville, you will need to add one more project to your fix-it list: earthquake-proofing your home gas lines.
As of July 1, a new townwide ordinance requires all home and business owners planning more than $10,000 in building or remodeling work to add gas shut-off valves to their gas meters.
The devices, designed to prevent gas leaks and explosions during earthquakes, are relatively inexpensive -- between $100 and $200 each. But they can be installed only by licensed plumbing contractors.
A number of local plumbers install the valves, most of whom can be found in the Yellow Pages, said Danville building inspector Mike Leontiades.
The Town Council in May adopted the new municipal code requirement, which lets residents choose between one of two types of safety valves. The first device, called an "earthquake-sensitive" gas shut-off valve, will automatically shut off the gas supply to a building during an earthquake of 5.2 magnitude or greater. The second type of device, called an excess flow valve, will shut off the gas supply only when a higher-than-normal gas flow is detected, such as in a leak.
The ordinance applies to anyone who receives a building permit for more than $10,000 worth of work to be done. Leontiades said all gas shut-off valves will be inspected free of charge by the town's building inspectors after the valves are installed.
Danville council members briefly considered expanding the ordinance to apply whenever homes are sold, but opted against that measure after local Realtors argued a point-of-sale requirement would lead to rushed installation jobs.
To encourage homeowners to install the valves voluntarily, the town for two years is waiving the $80 building permit fee that normally would be required for standalone installation. Brochures about the gas valves are available at the town offices, 510 La Gonda Way.
"I'm hoping people will come in on their own to make up for that slack that we're not getting from point-of-sale," Leontiades said. "Hopefully, San Ramon and other communities will adopt similar ordinances."
